Tibetans stand trial over self-immolations

TWO ethnic Tibetans stood trial yesterday at a court in southwest China's Sichuan Province over the case of eight people said to have been incited to set themselves on fire. Three of the eight died.

Lorang Konchok, 43, and his 31-year-old nephew, Lorang Tsering, were accused of intentional homicide, said a statement issued by the Intermediate People's Court of the Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba.

The Aba Prefectural People's Procuratorate instituted a public prosecution against the two suspects on December 31.

They were arrested last August after a series of self-immolations in Aba.

According to the statement, Lorang Konchok had long-term and close contact with Samtan, a key figure in an overseas "Kirti Monastery media liaison team," a "Tibet independence" organization of the Dalai clique.

Instructed by Samtan, the prosecution alleges, from 2009, Lorang Konchok collected and sent information on self-immolation to overseas contacts. He is accused of inciting the self-immolations of local Tibetans Tsedrup and Tsenam, last March.

It is also alleged that on August 9, last year, Lorang Tsering heard that Jokba, 19, a herdsman from Aba, had a desire to self-immolate, and put Jokba in contact with Lorang Konchok. To strengthen Jokba's resolve, prosecutors say Lorang Konchok recorded Jokba's information, took pictures with his mobile phone and promised to spread news of the self-immolation overseas. Jokba died the following day.

According to the statement, the two suspects encouraged another five people to self-immolate, efforts which failed.

Prosecutors claimed Lorang Konchok is the main culprit with Lorang Tsering an accessary.

The court announced an adjournment.

China being unable to get the goats is finding new ways to find scapegoats.

Inciting people to self immolate themselves.

Indeed, if people are ready to burn themselves because of their disgust for the Chinese and their occupation of their homeland, then the disgust must be really strong.

Terrorists at least do damage and then can get killed, but imagine the sheer desperation of the people that they do not do any damage to the State but instead kill themselves, wherein they feel it is not even worth living under Han occupation, let alone doing any action that impacts on the Han to remind them of their atrocities!

Maybe they are aware that nothing can move the heartless Han, who are sold to their arrogance and ability to crush underfoot by the most dastardly means any forms of protest..

There is a legal precedent from Vietnam.
Tạ Phong Tần (born c. 1969[1]) is a Vietnamese dissident blogger. A former policewoman, she was arrested in September 2011 on anti-state propaganda charges for her blog posts alleging government corruption.[2][3] On 30 July, Ta Phong Tan's mother Dang Thi Kim Lieng immolated herself in front of the government offices in Bac Lieu province in protest of the charges against her daughter.[4] On 4 October 2012, Ta Phong Tan was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Despite the shock of the Western public, the practice of Vietnamese monks self-immolating was not unprecedented. Instances of self-immolations in Vietnam had been recorded for centuries, usually carried out to honor Gautama Buddha. The most recently recorded case had been in North Vietnam in 1950. The French colonial authorities had tried to eradicate the practice after their conquest of Vietnam in the 19th century, but had not been totally successful. They did manage to prevent one monk from setting fire to himself in Huế in the 1920s, but he managed to starve himself to death instead. During the 1920s and 1930s, Saigon newspapers reported multiple instances of self-immolations by monks in a matter-of-fact style. The practice had also been seen in the Chinese city of Harbin in 1948 when a monk seated himself in the lotus position on a pile of sawdust and soybean oil and set fire to himself in protest against the treatment of Buddhism by the communists of Mao Zedong. His heart remained intact, as did that of Đức.[41]

Chairman Ray, actually a Chinaman expressed his views back on 10-11-12, 08:54 PM http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/...selves-fire-take-tibet-burning-over-50-a.html

Just the thought of setting oneself on fire send a shiver down my spine.

How would a normal human being do that to himself??

Then quickly the news of self immolation was reported to Dharamsala, in India

Your holiness, another soul was harvested for the cause of xxx.

Hm, Free Tibet headed by a Brigden.

No they're not "crimanls". Sociopathic at most. Those who masterminded and encouraged such burnings are criminals, in whatever disguise, including "religion" or "freedom".

Straight to the point: of spiritually manipulated people, by remote control in Dharamsala, for the interest of India

Why China thinks India is an enemy 12 pages for your perusal
If India was interested in destabilising China, it would be more pro active than having a frail old man to do it.

India's restraint is what prevents the Tibetans to take on the atrocities of the Han in Tibet.

You mean you tried and failed. Now making lame excuses of why you are not doing it any more.

The Special Frontier Force (SFF) is a paramilitary special force of India created on 14 November 1962. It's main goal was to conduct covert operations behind Chinese lines in the event of another Indo-China war. The first Inspector General of the SFF was a retired Indian Army Major General who was known for his unconventional thinking. Soon the SFF came to be known as 'Establishment 22' due to its first Inspector General, who used to be commander of 22 Mountain Regiment during World War II.[1]

By spring 1961, Mustang guerrilla units had begun raids along a 250 mile stretch inside Tibet. In addition, some 12,000 Tibetans eventually joined the Special Frontier Force that manned the Sino-Indian border

Remember what happened in 1962?

It was raised, but not used later.

Now who was this Major General?

I thought you all decried the use of Wikipedia.

But now you quote it!

Typical Chinese - Uku Uku - Tahiti for any port in stormy weather!

Xie Xie!

Typically of Chinese or typically of Indian doesn't blur the fact India has been undermining China by all means, with a pious doublespeak though.

Tons of reports other than Wikipedia >>> The CIA's Secret War in Tibet, by Kenneth Conboy and James Morrison and CIA in TIBET : About The Project testify to India's "proactiveness" incl. prior to 1962.

Fair enough, that's what can be expected from India as an enemy state, even in conspiracy with CIA against so-called non-aligned "principle".

Spare us from the platitude like Han "atrocities" >>>http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/politics-society/46980-india-suffer-did-kashmir-arundhati.html There's even thread that was closed with numerous appalling pics of Indian oppression in Kashmir.

Namaste!

If India had any intentions to confront China in Tibet, it could have easily done so in the 1950s, when the Chinese marched in to occupy Tibet.

China, if you remember, was in those days taking on the Americans in Korea and Korea was closer to China than Tibet. China would have a two front war and US would chip in in Tibet to assist India. In fact, the US was goading India to do so, but our idealist PM did not agree. In hindsight, I would say he erred.

Indian oppression in Kashmir.

If indeed there is oppression, then the international media would not be allowed such free access that it has in Kashmir or even allow foreigners to visit areas where there was an Inner Line permit required.

These days even that Inner Line permit is not required.

In India, one does not have to visit areas as a group tour as in China. One can visit India as an individual.

To visit Tibet and Xinjiang, you have to come in a group so that a 'tourist guide', who is actually a minder is attached so that you cannot visit where you want.

So, as the British say, go and tell it to the Marines!

Knee High and Xie Xie to you!

LOL. India were in no shape to fight China in the 50s. Try not to confuse your inability with lack of intentions.

That is because they saw how they failed spectacularly. Of course indians backtracked then. They would be fools to try seeing the fate of tibetans.
Like you said yourself, sir. nothing wrong with wiki as long as you know what source they are using.
