Former Special Forces operators running security agencyMaharashtra: ‘Yacht carrying weapons belonged to Australian, drifted to Raigad coast due to inclement weather’ – Top Points
The boat belongs to an Australian citizen. The boat's engine malfunctioned out in the sea, and the people were rescued by a Korean boat, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said., India News, Times Nowwww.timesnownews.com
Top points on the Maharashtra suspicious boat recovery:
- The Raigad police, after conducting a preliminary investigation into the matter, stated that the yacht belonged to a security agency. Times Now has learned that the boat belonged to a multinational firm, Neptune Maritime Security.
- Police said dismantled sophisticated weapons were recovered from the boat which ‘are of no use to anyone’. Cops added that the matter is still being investigated further and Central agencies have also been informed about the development.
- Sources said at least three AK-47 rifles were among the weapons that have been recovered from the boat by the Raigad District Police.
- “An unidentified boat found at Harihareshwar Beach and a lifeboat found at Bharadkhol in Raigad district. Nobody is present on either of them. Coast Guard and Maharashtra Maritime Board have been informed of the same. Police Department is taking the necessary action,” stated the Raigad Police.
- Sources said security agencies contacted the company whose sticker was found on the box containing weapons. The company, which is into maritime security, informed the authorities that their yacht had capsized a few days ago in international waters and that the weapons belonged to them. The security agencies, including the Maharashtra ATS, are verifying this claim.
- Sources further said that prima facie, there does not seem to be a terror angle to the discovery. However, all angles are still being investigated for security reasons.
- A team of the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad has been sent from Mumbai to Alibaug and ATS chief Vineet Agarwal is accompanying the officers. A bomb squad was also sent to the spot.
- ATS chief Vineet Agarwal earlier told Times Now that the boat appeared to belong to a security agency and is believed to have drifted to the spot where it was found. However, the ATS will look at all angles. “Let us investigate the matter and see whether it belongs to an authority. The boat appears to have drifted there. If the boat is unmanned and there was adverse weather in the high seas, it is possible that the boat may have drifted,” he said.
- The Raigad District Police have enforced a blockade across the Maharashtra district as a precautionary measure.
