I disagree with you on this. If situation in Afghanistan has revealed anything to the world is the cowardly nature of America. They have backstabbed their allies so many times its not even funny anymore. South Vietnam, Shias in Iraq, Kurds in Syria, and latest victim Afghanistan.
Anyone who trusts their national security on Americans at this point is blind to reality. If Americans won't protect Afghanistan agaist some rag tag terror group and run away like cowards what makes anyone think they will face full might of a nuclear armed nation with second most powerful military on earth?
The moment China attacks Taiwan, Americans will be first ones to evacuate. Their president will say its not our fight and issue some BS sanctions. Behind the doors they will make a deal with chinese and business will go back as usual.
If Taiwan or Japan are serious about their national security they should start developing their own military capability against China including Nuclear.
The only reason Japan is not implementing their nuclear program is because of the US. Apparently, they still believe they are at war with Japan.
Japan is a true anomaly. All the other Great Powers went nuclear decades ago, the once-and-no-longer great, such as France; the never-will-be great, such as North Korea. There are nukes in the hands of Pakistan, which overnight could turn into an al-Qaeda state, and North Korea, a country so massively deranged that it reports that the "Dear Leader" shot five holes-in-one in his first time playing golf and also wrote six operas. Yet America is plagued by doubts about Japan's joining this club.
Japan is not just a model international citizen -- dynamic economy, stable democracy, self-effacing foreign policy -- it is also the most important and reliable U.S. ally after only Britain. Japan has to decide for themselves, not depend on America like its leaders have been all these years. Pyongyang's nukes, after all, are pointed not west but east.
