The exact variant matters. It's possible that they bought a longer range version of R-27 (than the range of R77 that's currently in IAF inventory)If you are buying R-77 then you don't buy R-27 unless there is something wrong with it.

Astra hasn't been rejected. It is still in development. 50 ordered are LSP versions. More will be ordered once the development completes. Your post wouldn't look so moronic had you bothered to check the facts here.Air force chief is about to retire and now its time to buy something so he can get last kick back.
Before 26 February 2019, anything made by Russia was outdated, Costly, poor in quality, High cost in maintenance, Not effective in today's scenarios... But suddenly post Balakot, a 253 kg missile with 60 km range ( may be 120km ) became a so advance that they are buying 400 pieces along with other heavy and longer range missiles. These missile were always there for IAF but all these years IAF was busy in Dalali of Derby, Mica, Meteor .....
A 153 kg Astra was rejected for LCA tejas for being too heavy and ordered only 50 missiles just for evaluation only.
Kindly let me know which developmental phage of Astra going on?? Please Explain DRDO role in it along with what subsystem need to be developed which was failed in previous trial??Astra hasn't been rejected. It is still in development. 50 ordered are LSP versions. You would have thought they would already have that.https://www.timesnownews.com/india/...ure-communication-between-fighter-jets/461569
IAF to buy SDRs from Israel to ensure secure communications between fighter jets
No they dont Armand. One thing Balakot has ensured is that IAF quickly covers its deficiencies. You would have thought they would already have that.
Another kick back deal in the name of emergency procurement. SDR already in development and will ready by next year.https://www.timesnownews.com/india/...ure-communication-between-fighter-jets/461569
IAF to buy SDRs from Israel to ensure secure communications between fighter jets
This deal was already in the making since last year, before balakot initial orfers were placed. Now hurried up.1000 radios willcover whole fighter fleetYou would have thought they would already have that.
How are you supposed to have secure communications without it? To tell me that IAF has had open radios all of this time is quite shocking. Frequency hopping radios have been available since the 80s.No they dont Armand. One thing Balakot has ensured is that IAF quickly covers its deficiencies.
In between is SDR a add on for Rafale or its a standard ?
Not developmental phase, but user trials still remain. When that happens, the missile will be formally inducted. DRDO working on next gen doesn't mean anything. DRDO is also working on AMCA, while LCA MK2 hasn't even flown yet.Kindly let me know which developmental phage of Astra going on?? Astra project has completed last year when 7 round were fired. Project completed, may be some upgrades which are normal for any weapon system. Wake up smell your coffee, DRDO is already working on next generation AAM
Wait, so how were we communicating between fighters before? And why did it occur to them to get this capability only after Balakot? This seems like an extremely obvious thing we should have already done long ago. There is a limit to shortsightedness.https://www.timesnownews.com/india/...ure-communication-between-fighter-jets/461569

Final user trial was done in Sep 2017 and Preproduction trial done in Sep 2018.Not developmental phase, but user trials still remain. When that happens, the missile will be formally inducted.
