Actually, on this point SL must look at making it easier for more Indian tourists to come in. There have been issues historically but it makes zero sense to ignore the elephant of a market right next door. Sole dependence on European tourists has its drawbacks.

We may have differences of opinions but as long as we are both approaching from the perspective of India's interest, the discussion should be allowed -- my humble opinion.

From India's interest, it makes absolute sense that Sri Lanks should join India. This will minimize the possibility of Sri Lanka being used by other powers against India. The demographics there is Buddhist so assimilation should not be a major issue.

Sri Lanka will have a lot to gain from this merger as well. They will have access to Indian market. They will not have to worry about taking loans; they will become the responsibility of India.

for this, US-Mexico relationship is a better model to explore from an economic perspective. all your concerns can be addressed by regular bilateral diplomacy.

We are not really known for "real world basis" for our grandiose thoughts. People keep talking about Akhand Bharat with factoring in the fact that it would necessarily mean taking in some 400 million Muslims. Even PoK is a nightmare. Some really take the idea of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam too seriously.....

Basically annexing such already disrupted and hostile land masses with inert public sentiment already predominantly hardened against India by any means will create more issues like red menace or insurgency like NE or dare hue santicami like North top ( except PoK though, usko to sath dekh ke hi marunga)!! Better to be content with what we have salvaged to integrate already and move on to flourish it. It's better to cut and forget the fingers with frostbite, than keeping it for 5 fingers's sake and inviting gangrene !!!

AKhand Bharat is frankly speaking, is something like going Oxymoronic Chutiyapa, Bangladesh is already fully radicalized and most public sentiment there is Fully anti India. Same with Myanmar, Pakstan and Afganistan. Nepal though being to going back to be Hindu rastra again, no way can be called on the same boat with India!! I am not a history major but at some point, indeed Sri Lanka was part of India. But that is not the sole point though. The point I was trying to make involves security of India.

Sri Lanka is in a very precarious situation. If we do not take control of Sri Lanka, someone else will. And then few decades later, another generation of Indians will be cursing us just like we curse Nehru.

When you say heavy duty stuff like "re-unification", you better be clear about your history.
I agree with your other concern regarding chinese influence on SL. But invasion is not the answer.

Taking in Sri Lanka may create a problem similar to Kashmir in long run.

If you think being Buddhist means no major issue with assimilation then you are for a surprise pal. Do take a look at Sinhalese Buddhism it will definitely not be to your liking.

It's disappointing to acknowledge but the Chinese seem to be the real Chad after watching dhimmi Indian defending Sri Lankan autonomy.
