@Johny_Baba Any idea how these retention mechanism works? And are these really needed.

What do the screw do here?
they are basically screws that keep tension at rear trunnion = metal block that provides structure and houses buttstock etc at rear end side of the receiver on an AK;
and yes, they are good to have because AK top cover in general is a wobbly part due to the way it is affixed on top then retained by that recoil spring on it - an extension of recoil spring base gets affixed in that square-ish hole of the top cover and keeps it under tension, which does provides some tension to it but not a proper fit - in fact a lot of AK gets their top cover popped out when these AKs are used with GP-25 and related UBGLs as launching of grenade sends strong vibrations down the rifle that sometimes recoil spring itself wobbles around and loses tension over top cover thus releasing it
so yeah, it should be deemed necessary to have such kind of mechanisms if your AKs are for some serious military service

AK-203, AK-12 and related rifles have a different way to firmly affix top cover on, by a flip-up type lock that provides enough tension that ;in theory; provides a firm fit to it so optics can be easily mounted - it's better design but implementing on our older AKs would need some more modifications to the rifle; better to just put such readymade top covers that's got tensioning mechanisms inbuilt in it that can be used on almost all AKs without much tool-room level modifications

though in my honest opinion all the designs where aiming devices - be it iron sights or optics, are mounted on top cover are...let's just call it inferior because even after such 'jugaads' to keep that top cover in place there always are some vibrations that can mess up with aiming devices in time; or; gradual disassembly-assembly can loosen it up and bringing back some of the wobble etc

that is why i advocate for SIG550 style design for AK as they just have upper section as a dedicated receiver in it made from firm metal stamped section - that design has solid fixing of the rails on top with least chances for any wobble in it - thus improving accuracy - AND THAT IS ALSO WHY i advocate for forking out a new-gen INSAS lines from that ARDE 5.56mm carbine design which has two-section top and bottom receiver design and so

Highlight the point where the screws must go

Any idea about how the fab one works?

Kyle Rittenhouse narrating events happened at Kenosha that day, here mentioning how he used Forward Assist of his AR to (push the bolt carrier forward and) close ejection port etc which later was fired on certain antifa supporters...

Case in point, forward assist feature potentially saved his life,
while Stoner himself and USAF etc were not so supportive towards putting this feature on M16, it seems that having it is still better than being sitting duck when situation arises...

I personally believe choosing non-reciprocating charging handle for INSAS was kind of a mistake, sure it helped with 'training' as previous 1A SLR had same charging handle albeit at slightly different location and gave them a chance to seal up that rifle by eliminating charging handle slot that would have been there in case they followed simple AK design, but they also removed direct forward assist that an AK style charging handle would have provided, or some other non-reciprocating design like AUG A1 had that button on charging handle to grab extension rod (here it would be gas piston itself) while pulling it back//pushing it forward to make it act as forward assist...at least some jams that INSAS suffered could have been solved this way and god knows if some lives could also have been saved or what not...

also, looking at rifles tested by the Army back then,
>AUG - had indirect forward assist feature with that button on non-reciprocating charging handle
View attachment 121650
>H&K 33 - no forward assist but bolt carrier had these serration like cuts near bolt face so 'in theory' an operator could push it manually forwad using his thumb
View attachment 121651
View attachment 121659
>H&K G41 - had AR style forward assist button on receiver with bolt carrier having cuts for it
View attachment 121652
View attachment 121657
>Stg-940 - was practically an AK what else to say, just slam on its charging handle
View attachment 121654
>Galil (?, saying ecause Rifle Room of Ishapore had it there so i guess it was tested out at one point ?) - same as above
View attachment 121655
>SIG-550 (again, RFI rifle room had it there so...) - same as above

and so,
almost all of them had one way or other to manually force bolt carrier forward in case it is not in battery, but somehow INSAS was not given it, "just charge the rifle two-three times" doesn't always work...

DPRK's new OICW

View attachment 231033

Looks like copy of ROK armed forces Daewoo K11.
Chinese also have very similar OICW like rifle with a bolt-action grenade launcher on upper section and on top a ballistic computer optical sight, the rifle on it is QBZ-03 one; it's named QTS-11

most likely they passed on the design to the Best Koreans and they made their own fork of it with their AK-74 domestic variant in place of QBZ-03 and making it magazine-fed at grenade launcher side and so

or they simply copied South Korean Daewoo K11 itself

if you have to ask this, i'm sorry to say you are not reading and learning anything from this thread leave the forum aside 😒
find the answer yourself
It's based on akm , due to its gas operated long stroke piston and rotating bolt .
