The handguard looks sweet, it extends upwards of the dust cover, so instead of mounting on the dust cover, you're basically mounting the sights on the handguard, Jee-nee-yus, I have read that AK sights mounted on Dust cover looses zero quickly
Except for that, I see nothing FAB doesn't offer
(((Also what is an expandable magazine??)
Found this on their website
It's just a regular polymer magazine
Although I will admit that when I read "expandable" me mind travelled towards very creative conclusions
AKMAG_P-700x700.jpg

AKMAG – export licence required

7.62x39mm AK Rifle Type Magazine A reliable, lightweight and cost-effective polymer magazine. Designed for multiple AK rifles in 7.62x39mm cal. Rugged and solid polymer construction.

It's because they don't have export license from Israel, they have decided to do a joint venture with Indian company and manufacture it here itself

Also this is very interesting

A analog bullet counter,
Red - 30 rounds left
Yellow - 20
Red - 10-0
I don't know wether they offer it for the 7.62×39 though
Edit: Yes, yes they do have this Jugaad bullet counter for AK mags

Tbvh, AK203 may not be the best option but IA seems hell bent on AK platform rifles for general infantry. Good AR like Sig, LMT, HK(won't but still) may cost the same.
Just someone confirm, some media reports were telling we aren't paying any royalty instead of the previous deal, so does that mean some other inhouse development in JV considering deal pricing remains the same(yeah some pie will be eaten by babus and generals but still). Considering we purchased Rafale with all it's features and scrutinized by oppn, won't it be the same case here
😪 Ok, IA wants AK, fine,
then why not OFB Trichy ? what is the need of importing a ruskie AK that is practically AK-74M in 7.62x39mm plus "modern" stuff like rails on top ? what special garam masala is in that AK that we need to deal with ruskies for a base design (with some rails and shits on it) that we already manufacture here ?

The only "positive" side i could see with this deal is that it would result in commonality of AK here as IA may soon drop all used romanian+captured choyneez and other AK variants for new maal, rest it is just another AK that we shouldn't be importing but "somehow" we are.

😪 sigh Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly elections 2022 effect, i guess...

if this faketory becomes operational we could see Pradhaan Sevak (sic) and Mukhya Sevak of the state personally inaugurating it, lots of media PR with words like "AE KE SENTAALIS SE BHI KHATARNAAK AE KE DO SO TEEN RIFLE AB BHAARAT ME BANEGI, INSAS KI CHHUTTI" ('specially on Youtube) and maybe some serkari exams asking one-two questions on it (as they have started asking questions on elementary defese matters nowadays, Bharat me banane waali AK-203 raaifal ka utpaadan nimn likhit sthalo me se kis sthal pe hoga etc) and what not...
And yes, some MoD babus and Fauzi Gernails somewhere getting their fine share of vodka and svetlana-katarina...
...and essentially what our boys in armed forces would get to replace INSAS is...khair jaane do, ispe toh bahut bol diye hain ab tak...
All of this could happen with Sig Sauer rifles too, no ?

Hhmm please elaborate what do you mean by it ?

Yeah the prachar, there is nothing about AK which makes it more politically publisizable to the masses over Sig

Actually there is, at least in minds of commoners,
See, the name AK-47 itself was largely made into a sorta "Brand"-like word for guns, case is similar to 'colgate vs toothpaste' scenario here...one is brand and other is just common word for a product used for cleansing teeth but first word represents the product itself in minds of commoners...
and this 'glamourisation' of AK-47 was largely done by (talking from Indian perspective) media wallahs here, whenever our police and security forces captured some AK rifles (be it AK-47 or AKM or chinese Type-56) they did this prachar that AAJ KASHMIR ME AATANKIYO KE PAAS SE BARAMAD HUI 3 AE KE SENTAALIS RIFLES, KAL EK FILMI HERO KE GHAR SE BARAMAAD HUI AE KE 3 AE KE CHHAPPAN RIFLES! etc, sometimes with even visuals...
so this kind of prachaar has already created this allure of AE KE 47 IS BEST RIFLE in minds of people, so i believe AE KE 47 SE BHI JYADA GHAATAK AE KE 203 AB BHAARAT ME BANEGI is enough juicy for commoners to consume (and for media-politician-whoever is uttering the word, to sell), the older lable was already selling well enough so a new label with bigger numerical suffix is going to sell equally good, and politicians specially know how to cash such things, so yeah...
{Some of my friends who know that i am into guns and stuff often used to ask me Ae Ke Sentaalis aur Ae Ke Chappan me kya farak hain, ya fir konsi achchi hain 😪 }

case in point, just look at this article, gonna post some excepts here including headline and tell me don't you kinda feel excitement from just reading it ?

Now people like me who knows some basic things of firearms and stuff could tell it that this is a click-bait article and nothing to be excited about, kisi goebbles ke chele ne likha hain sab, but as long as this "BRAND" of AE KE SENTAALIS is selling here people gonna buy such stuff and consume it 🤷‍♂️

As for SIG-716i, very few people going to consume things related to that, the word itself is largely unknown except among certain enthusiasts who could differentiate between an INSAS and a Galil rifle, so it isn't as 'sticky' or 'selleble' word as AE KE SENTAALIS....AE KE CHHAPPAN...AE KE DO SO TEEN...AE KE (NUMBER), i think.

Lol , this logic although new is foolish brother.
People don't care about firearms in india.
They really dont.
Plus no body thinks like this.

Hhmm no i don't think so, as long as both sides use the same firearm common people going to be amused with the name, as well as disgusted if it is in wrong hands, BUT it is still remembered in either cases...
This case is very much similar to Thompson Submachine Gun in the United States, was designed during ending period of WW1 by General John T. Thompson, but kinda late to be inducted in their Army as War was already over, with production starting in 1921...so it was sold to anybody interested from US postal service (so they could safeguard their parcels) to then USMC and then Chinese Army and even some 'businessmen' there who later turned criminal (specially those 'prohibition period' stories involving Tommy Gun)...this gradually build an image of tommy gun among public and later movies of the era often depicted it in hands of fedora-wearing-cigar smokin' mafias...likewise this 'negative image' did help in its adoption in police units and FBI so once it saw some 'good service' a similar image was also build {that a firearm so good both sides decides to use it} and then it became main SMG of the United States armed forces in WW2...
throughout all the years it was given lots of names, "Chicago Typewriter" (as Chicago based mafias used it) to "Trench Broom" (useful in 'cleaning the trenches' in warzone)...the world "Tommy Gun" itself become synonymous to any sort of submachine gun (same 'colgate vs toothpaste' case we saw here)...
