In USA, we should better partner with Sig Sauer as our mainstay weapons with ToT, that way in the future this step will definitely help us, since Sig Sauer will get more orders from US military and get more competitive and more innovative as well. We should definitely partner up with them. Not to mention the reputation they get if gotten orders from Indian military.

Other companies like bushmaster is also a good option, especially their ACRView attachment 95407

Arsenal Arms can do a JV with some private Indian company and make their AR-M1s with all the requirements, should MoD place an order. Arsenal's AK is a trusted product one among CAPFs and CRPFs. Enough with exorbitantly priced watered down AK-203.
Already exists

@Johny_Baba how do u rate this ACR design?

I don't think depending upon AK203 or waiting for private Gun Industry is going to do any good.
Better if DRDO begins R&D on a platform similar to this and tender manufacturing rights to OFB or any other corporates.
They already tried MCIWS and failed.

Designing firearms, way I see it, is not a job for scientists but rather a skill of workmanship. In a country that values getting a worthless degree over developing an actual skill, that is hard to come by. But for skills to develop, first there needs to be an industry....and not public sector where no innovation can take place and no freedom to invest profits as seen fit.

So in my opinion, this would rather be the way forward:

Get a Pvt sector company to manufacture existing foreign design under license in large scale, enough for workers to develop skill and heads of departments to know the design & functioning inside out. A potential deal like the 5.56 carbine where PLR & MKU would compete with respective foreign partners is ideal.

Get them to come up with their own design by modifying the foreign one, using many of the same tooling if need be, and begin tenders for Police & CAPF units. In Pvt sector, this will happen naturally as the desire to increase profit margin takes over. Cut ties with the foreign partner at this stage (they'll do it themselves to be frank).

Additionally, the golden standard for these companies should be to build they own version of AR-15 & begin marketing it in the US...for some of the larger companies, they can even look at acquisition of many small American manufacturers who make some fine rifles like Patriot Ordnance, LWRC, Noveske, Geissele or LaRue.

Oh well, wishful thinking....

Here's a comparison of accuracy(moa) of most popular AK rifles(all calibers)

2 major things to note here:
1. AK 5.45X39 mm may not be as accurate as a modern AK with 7.62X39mm
2. AK-103's accuracy should match AK-203's accuracy for referential purpose.

That's what our upgraded INSAS should have looked like now.

Brother not just rifles... But you won't believe in western world even a waiter if interested in other profession and have aptitude gets to switch job and even enter into aerospace sector.

You look into their curriculum and things they do during their college and will realise how stupid ours is. The only advantage we have is in mathematics, coding and theoretical physics to an extent rest we are just dead weight.

We should analyse the best education systems in world to know how to make ours better. As for small arms it is a dead story, Carbine tender is out, the trials have not even announced, dunno when will start, dunno when will it end, dunno when will the contract be signed, dunno when the first batch will be delivered, dunno when rest of the carbines will be ordered, dunno when all carbines will be delivered.

article says,
"a complete transfer of technology is expected to be achieved within 32 months of the contract."

so even if we place order tomorrow, only after 32 months OFB "may be" in position "to start preparing" for production line

🙏 🙏jai ho
