No concrete source. Just a chaiwala chatter from BRF about a proposal from ARDE after the Sig 553 style carbine came out, that it could also be made in 7.62*51 mm. But army rejected it in the proposal stage itself.

However, if ARDE do come up with a 7.62*51 mm rifle version of its Sig 550 Chaap carbine, it will closely
resemble the Sig 751 SAPR.

These mags of Bren are compatible with Aks and vice versa as i had seen Ak mags in Bren-2 iirc

That is a dedicated receiver for that with AK style paddle magazie release for making Bren 2 work with AK standard mags

^such kits virtually exist for many convertible firearms, FN SCAR, various AR (CMMG MK47 lower receivers)...

Besides here is Bren 2 STANAG-compatible magazine in 7.62x39mm (that MCIWS magazine in same calibre must be very similar in geometry to this one), both sides

^upper part of magazine is cleary STANAG one-straight, has knotch on left side for magazine locking tab and so, notice no AK mag locking lug on its rear or knotch on front.
So very unlikely this mag would go in any AK,it'll just drop outta rifle...

How good are Kalashnikov pattern 5.56x45 rifles? Could we have gone with a AK 19 or galil ace family rifle instead of making 7.62x39(AK 203) standard for the larger part of the army?

I would prefer TAR over AK-203 by OFB.

I wish they’d tinker a little with that rifle by removing the Kalashnikov style rear sight and move it as it has been done in the AK 12 family rifles, AK 203 style selection lever, M4 type folding and adjustable stock, semi transparent mag or metal mag with transparent window as they showed with Baby TAR as well as it’s pistol grip . Make a 5.56x45mm version of both TAR and Baby TAR would be interesting. Potential export chances could be there too as the Bulgarians have been doing.
This is only of Armed forces really want an AK platform to continue as I’d rather they just move to an AR platform where most of these features are already there.

AK203 style Selection lever is still your Standard AK style just with a Raised notch in it

AK12 and thereabouts have a fire selector more akin to M4 than an AK, which IMO is far better than an AK

And TAR already had a model with M4 style stock

OFB has said quite a few times that they customise the rifle as per the forces requirement, example the customer can chose a fixed stock, folding stock or adjustable and folding etc, same for piccatiny rails, CRPF has asked for rails only on top of the front handguard, while others haven’t even asked for rails, according to them they can put quad rails too if anyone asks , but will face the same constraints any other Bulgarian AK would face with the pic rails.

Everyone says Ak203 was a bad decision and we should have gone for Galil Ace and yada yada. Ace/Ace-2 costs 1800 USD. Even if mass produce or order thrm that pricr aint going to come down below 1000 no matter what unless its heavily watered down. Though it is comparatively accurate than a Ak103/Arsenal M5F41 the advantages posed by is is bleak which dont justify the price tag..And outcome of a battle doesnt depend upon such bleak points unless the weapon is an utter crap. But in this case Ak variants are still doing the job.
Anyway in case of SF getting a Galil Ace-2 or Bren-2 to replace those Vzs and Modified Aks sre the way forward .

Galil ACE can definitely come around 1000 a buck which is same as what we are paying for AK 103/203 .

In short we can get a better one at same price so why not ?

And outcome of battle depends on lot of things... and small improvements makes a case for themselves eventually.

And it's not abt doing the job but doing it better than before. So if it's better ergo , handling in auto , accuracy etc whatever we can get we should.

The barrel seems free floated now. Though a better M-LOK style handguard with P-rails in 12 and 6 o clock position will be a great value addition. The handguard design has not changed since 2014.

I still believe MoD should've made a further comparison between 3 AK models for finalization:
AK-203
TAR
Arsenal AR-M1
All 3 are being used among our forces and troops so this will give a better insight on overall performance of all available AK types. Further, it may also help us bargain with Putin and somewhat lower the cost of watered down AK-203, should MoD go for it alone.

They have no standardisation.
They are old school people , similarly soldiers too.
