PLR Systems makes IWI Mepro Weapon Sights and TONBO makes NV and Thermal Sights.

BEL makes a desi Aimpoint Gen 2 Red Dot and an EOTech Holographic Sight with laser designator.

Trijicon and EOTech are the only imported sights besides some Russian ones.

We are buying carbines sure, but not for CQB specifically - but for Infantry usage. Way I see it, in a 10-man IA Section, the RCL Operator & Section Commander are the most likely to use 5.56 carbine as their primary weapon (and perhaps Assistant RCL operator too, the one that carries the reloads).

So it has to be effective at infantry engagement ranges of up to ~300m. That's the requirement. In other words, not very different from the needs that shaped the US Army's current service-rifle the M4A1.

I'm not sure as to the barrel lengths that were actually offered in the (now cancelled) fast-track tender, and I haven't gone through the new MII tender's documentation in detail so I don't know if there is any barrel length requirement (if some of you have, please let me know).

But I would imagine a 14.5" barrel as the most suitable for an Infantry carbine in 5.56x45. Same length as US Army's M4A1. The 10.1/10.4/10.5" lengths are great for CQB but like I said, that's not the requirement. However there is the 850mm folded length spec we talked about earlier on the forum & about how it could be interpreted.

If I've learnt anything from following the 7.62x51 fast-track deal (which resulted in 716i purchase) it's this:
  • The specifications mentioned in the RFI are extremely open to creative interpretation.
  • The values may or may not be adhered to down to the last decimal.
  • Never rule out creative offers from vendors, anything's possible when talking about a deal this size.
  • The offers need not necessarily be strictly off-the-shelf, and may well include a new product tailored to the deal.

The length of the gun should be 800mm max, Arad fits here with 11.5” barrel. I remember people were saying me no 14.5” carbine will be selected, 10.5 will be selected, and I gave the same engagement logic back then, now I also got to know what Army wants, they need a CQB carbine, for Special Forces, Artillery, and other non Infantry and specialised units.

Provide details of the requirement/RFI link please.

Went over this before a few months ago.

Like I said, a non-standard product is likely to be in the offing. Something based on MCX or Carmel.
I read another article that Army wants 1913 rails on all sides, so no M-LOK??? Who tf makes such stupid GSQRs? No one wants quad rails.

I haven't heard anything about that but won't be surprised if true - even the 716 was modified with a 6'o clock 1913 rail for IA which the civilian version doesn't have. Likely they want all existing peripheral kit to work with it out of the box without needing adapters.

Kinda backward thinking when you're talking about large scale new deals, but that's IA for you.
