This is not QBZ-191

It is a prototype series simply called "Norinco Assualt Rifle" or NAR, original technical designation being CS/LR-17 (CS/LR-18 for next prototype in series and so) which is more or less a 2016 era project that may have continued till 2018 end at least that failed against other prototypes to win over PLA, thus they turned it into export-oriented project at max

CS/LR-17 or "NAR" was supposed to be modular rifle system with different interchangeable barrel configurations for different calibers etc, primarily offered in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm, and later 7.62x51mm version also came out

There were total 11 variants(!) of this NAR or CS/LR-17/18 platform out there

besides ekdum fresh pics of this were posted by our esteemed choyneez viruses members yes 😅 in past in this very forum, why you no visit old stuff ?

Random pix-- back to HALL 8 , more better images of CS/LR17 modular Rifle system

Here you can even refer to this vdo for more info, straight from virus er...horse's mouth :deadhorse:

and even before that they had some old school project CS/LR-14 and so which were completely different designs, mostly based on SKS-esque Kalashnikov pattern stuff and so, this one seems AK and AR mixture with HK416 style short stroke gas piston system

in conclusion this might be a competitor project or predecessor or current QBZ-191 as we know, i.e. this

but it's not QBZ-191 for sure

It is also compatible with standard AK mags, which the type-56-2 rifles use, I don't see no reason why the pakis wouldn't go for it unless it doesn't pass the PA trials, which is one of the best in the world
Interesting stuff to see

Yeah they need a 7.62 x39 weapon they term it SMG and they made pk21 for that role but no news so this might end up as in both battlerifle and smg in PA service

7.62 can't be used as SMG, it had to be pistol calibre- select fire, 7.62 is rifle calibre

They term type56 as smg and pk21 is also termed sub machine gun pakis are real wierdos
Also I'm fairly skeptical about 762 NATO used as a battle rifle,
Also note the use of those rounds in the platforms, it is intended to attract foreign customers, since the Chini themselves don't use such stuff widespread

I believe it won't happen, mainly because porkie already are in negotiations with CZ of Czech republic for CZ-807 system which is essetially similar thing to this NAR, a modular rifle platform etc. If they could get a modern modular european AR-18 derivative then why go behind choyneez one...Though the said "talks" are in freezer since 2017 so let's see.

BTW Sidenote, Czech made this special modular variant of new CZ-805 for us Indians when we were running that Modular-MultiCal Rifle tender here, we threw that tender out once DRDO-ARDE came out with MCIWS//AAR and Czech offered same thing to porkies, i believe Italians might have done same after throwing out of that Tender, as ARX-160 is in use by SSU Sindh.
