The Russian Defense Ministry will receive its first Su-35 fighter plane by the end of the year, Russia's Sukhoi Aircraft Design Bureau said on Monday.
The first modernized Su-35 was presented at the 2007 MAKS air show outside Moscow. The Russian Defense Ministry signed a deal with Sukhoi on the purchase of 48 modernized Su-35 jets in 2009.

Russia to float out new frigate on Friday
MOSCOW (BNS): Russia will float out its new Admiral Sergei Gorshkov frigate on Friday.
The warship, which is the lead ship of the Russian Navy's Admiral Sergei Gorshkov class frigates, has been designed for the Navy's Black Sea Fleet.
"It is planned that the sea trials of the ship constructed using the latest methods in shipbuilding will begin in 2011," a Navy spokesman was quoted as saying by Ria Novosti.
The frigate will be able to execute long-range strike, anti submarine and escort missions in far sea zones. It has a displacement of 4.500 tons and a length of 132 meters.
Russia plans to build at least 20 to 30 such vessels for its navy.

Russia's first Project 22350 frigate was floated out at the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg on Friday.
The Admiral Gorshkov frigate will be able to execute long-range strike, anti-submarine and escort missions in remote areas.
However, it will be some time yet before it enters service because the ship is only 40% complete, officials said.
The next Gorshkov-class frigate, the Admiral Kasatonov, is under construction and expected to be launched in 2012.
The Russian Navy will receive up to 10 new ocean-going frigates in the next 10 years, a Defense Ministry source said.
The Russian Navy needs between 20 and 30 such frigates, which will be the 21st century's main ocean-going surface ship.
The Admiral Gorshkov has a displacement of 4,500 tons, a speed of 29 knots, a range of 4000 nm at 14 knots, and endurance of 15 days.
It has a crew of 210 and an assortment of weaponry, including a 130 mm A-192 gun, a Kashtan close-in weapon system (CIWS), eight Oniks 3M55 (SS-N-26) anti-ship missiles, the Shtil I (SA-N-12 "Grizzly") medium range antiaircraft missile complex, four 533mm torpedo tubes, RPK-9 Medvedka-VE (SS-N-29) anti-submarine rockets, and 24 Uragan SAM missiles.

Russia set to rebuild its nuclear-powered cruisers

This will make it possible to establish inexpensive but hard-hitting task forces.
Multipurpose task forces like this, capable of accomplishing a variety of missions during peace-time and during active combat alike, can be expanded with upgraded guided-missile cruisers and new-generation aircraft carriers. These latter will be built, provided Moscow makes the relevant political decision.
Moreover, combat-ready small ships are an essential pre-requisite for the deployment of capital warships because the Russian Navy is now unable to operate amphibious assault ships, guided-missile cruisers and aircraft carriers. Its unprotected capital ships have to remain in port. In some cases, they put to sea with a random selection of other warships or conduct solo missions, calling at foreign ports.
This is how both the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier and the only operational Peter Veliky heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser are used today. Hopefully, in wanting to rebuild the other three cruisers, the Defense Ministry has more ambitious objectives in mind.

Popov said that" with the transition of anti-aircraft missile units to the state of constant operational readiness, the number of war games with live combat shootings has increased by nearly one third." The S-300B anti-aircraft missile systems is advertised to be one of the world's most powerful.
The Russian S-300 is a series of long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz. This is the first ever reference of the designation B (S-300B). The first ever oprational deployment of a S-300 system was in 1978. The NATO reporting name is NATO reporting name SA-10 GRUMBLE.

MOSCOW (BNS): Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi has begun flight testing of a new batch of Su-34 fighter bombers ahead of their delivery to the Russian Air Force by this year-end.
The advanced two-seat strike aircraft are undergoing flight trials at the Chkalov Aviation Production Association (NAPO) flight testing station in Novosibirsk, Sukhoi said.
The company was awarded a contract in 2008 to provide a total of 32 Su-34 fighters to the Russian Defence Ministry.
The multi-role Su-34 fighter bombers, operated by the Russian Air Force, have been designed to attack land-based, sea- and airborne targets by day and night in all weather conditions.
The four-plus generation strike plane is equipped with several airborne munitions, including high-precision ones. It also features a smart anti-radar defence system, an armed cockpit and latest computers that provide extra capabilities for the pilot and navigator to perform aimed bombing and to maneuver under enemy fire.
The excellent aerodynamics, large capacity internal fuel tanks, fuel-efficient bypass engines with a digital control system, in-flight refueling device and add-on fuel tanks enable the aircraft to fly long distances close to those of medium strategic bombers.
The Russian Air Force had showcased the new bombers during the Vostok-2010 military exercises held in July. During the exercise, the Su-34 successfully hit mock targets in the Russian Far East after flying non-stop all the way from a base in the European part of Russia. The mission also involved a mid-air refueling operation

NATO eyes 'fresh start' with Russia
NATO will launch a "fresh start" with Russia this week with a deal to step up collaboration on Afghanistan and efforts to end suspicion over a European missile shield, the alliance's chief said Monday.
NATO leaders meeting in Lisbon on Friday and Saturday are expected to endorse a plan to mount a missile shield that will defend Europe from ballistic missiles and invite Russia to join the system.
At a separate summit in the Portuguese capital, NATO and Russia are also expected to reach an agreement on their first ever joint review of common security threats and deepen their cooperation on Afghanistan.
"I think we are witnessing a fresh start in the relationship between NATO and Russia and maybe I could go further and say a fresh start in the relationship between Russia and the West," Anders Fogh Rasmussen told a news conference.
"I think this is of huge strategic importance," he said.
The Western military alliance has made intense efforts to convince Russia that the system was not aimed against the former Soviet power but rather to counter threats from other countries armed with ballistic missiles.
Russia was deeply concerned about a previous US plan to install anti-missile systems in eastern Europe, but NATO wants to ease Russian concerns by inviting Moscow to join a new project.
"We will decide at the NATO-Russia summit in Lisbon to initiate a joint analysis as to how missile defence cooperation could be implemented," Rasmussen said.
"Cooperation would clearly demonstrate that this system is not directed against Russia," he said.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has given a cautious welcome to the idea of joining the missile shield but said Moscow needed to hear more details.
Russia has cooperated with NATO on Afghanistan by allowing alliance supplies to transit through its territory and providing counter-narcotics training to Afghan officials outside Moscow.
NATO, which has faced security threats in its transit routes through Pakistan, wants Russia to allow equipment in and out of Afghanistan and expand the list of permitted goods to include armoured vehicles.
Russia has allowed a one-way transit of non-lethal NATO supplies by train to Afghanistan. Weapons would still not be permitted under a new deal, NATO officials said.
Russia is also considering opening a second training centre that would be open to more countries, including Pakistan, NATO officials said.
In addition, NATO wants Moscow to provide around 20 Mi-17 helicopters, spare parts and pilot training to Afghanistan.
The NATO-Russia summit on Saturday will mark the highest-level meeting between the two sides since the war between Russia and the pro-Western former Soviet state of Georgia in August 2008 severely strained relations.

NATO will launch a "fresh start" with Russia this week with a deal to step up collaboration on Afghanistan and efforts to end suspicion over a European missile shield, the alliance's chief said Monday.
NATO leaders meeting in Lisbon on Friday and Saturday are expected to endorse a plan to mount a missile shield that will defend Europe from ballistic missiles and invite Russia to join the system.
At a separate summit in the Portuguese capital, NATO and Russia are also expected to reach an agreement on their first ever joint review of common security threats and deepen their cooperation on Afghanistan.
"I think we are witnessing a fresh start in the relationship between NATO and Russia and maybe I could go further and say a fresh start in the relationship between Russia and the West," Anders Fogh Rasmussen told a news conference.
"I think this is of huge strategic importance," he said.
The Western military alliance has made intense efforts to convince Russia that the system was not aimed against the former Soviet power but rather to counter threats from other countries armed with ballistic missiles.
Russia was deeply concerned about a previous US plan to install anti-missile systems in eastern Europe, but NATO wants to ease Russian concerns by inviting Moscow to join a new project.
"We will decide at the NATO-Russia summit in Lisbon to initiate a joint analysis as to how missile defence cooperation could be implemented," Rasmussen said.
"Cooperation would clearly demonstrate that this system is not directed against Russia," he said.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has given a cautious welcome to the idea of joining the missile shield but said Moscow needed to hear more details.
Russia has cooperated with NATO on Afghanistan by allowing alliance supplies to transit through its territory and providing counter-narcotics training to Afghan officials outside Moscow.
NATO, which has faced security threats in its transit routes through Pakistan, wants Russia to allow equipment in and out of Afghanistan and expand the list of permitted goods to include armoured vehicles.
Russia has allowed a one-way transit of non-lethal NATO supplies by train to Afghanistan. Weapons would still not be permitted under a new deal, NATO officials said.
Russia is also considering opening a second training centre that would be open to more countries, including Pakistan, NATO officials said.
In addition, NATO wants Moscow to provide around 20 Mi-17 helicopters, spare parts and pilot training to Afghanistan.
The NATO-Russia summit on Saturday will mark the highest-level meeting between the two sides since the war between Russia and the pro-Western former Soviet state of Georgia in August 2008 severely strained relations.

Russia successfully test-fires an RS-12M Topol ICBM
An RS-12M Topol intercontinental ballistic missile test fired from the Kapustin Yar training range near Volgograd has successfully hit the target at the Sary-Shagan training range in Kazakhstan, Russian Strategic Rocket Forces spokesman Col Vadim Koval told Itar-Tass.
"The test launch aimed to confirm the stability of main characteristics of the missile class in the period of extended service life and to test measuring systems and payload of intercontinental ballistic missiles," he said.
The test launch mission on Sunday was fully accomplished, Koval said.
That was the second test launch of an RS-12M Topol missile in 2010.
The first test launch was done from the Plesetsk spaceport to the Kura training range in Kamchatka on October 28, he said.
