Police in Nepal said Wednesday that they had detained 12 people accused of illegally sending young men to be recruited into the Russian army, days after authorities confirmed the death of six Nepali citizens fighting in the Ukraine war.

Clearly there are foreign fighters on both side.

The legislation of both countries allows the army and foreign citizens to sign the contract. This is a question for a third party - where it is not legal.

This war is over. It will now be skirmishes war with both Ukraine and Russia firing UAVs at each other. Russia will not vacate any area they have occupied.

AIM-7 Sparrow is same generation as R-27, PL-11. It is be roughly on par with Buk M1. Range should be about 40 km when ground launched.

For now the most important thing for Ukraine is quantity. AIM-7 can fulfill that. It was built in massive numbers during the Cold War. A few hundred or even a few thousand is no problem with supply.

The AIM-7 replaces the standard 9M38, which is running low. Shooting down cruise missiles is enough. But so far there have been no massive shellings. Only Sh-131/136 look for holes in the defense every night.

F-16A MLU can carry both AIM-7 and AIM-120. Quantity wise, AIM-7 trumps AIM-120. During the Cold War they made lots of AIM-7. Far more than AIM-120 production after the Cold War.

You yourself said that the AIM-7 is an analogue of the R-27. But if there is an R-77, then Russian pilots make better use of it. There are no air battles at such a dangerous range. Shooting down a drone with a fighter jet is almost like hammering nails with a microscope. Maybe a cruise missile.
Ukraine produces R-27. I doubt that they could end, because Ukraine is only increasing its military production. The army ordered the military-industrial complex 750 units of armored vehicles. This means there is capacity to produce it. So I fully admit that there are anti-aircraft systems based on the R-27 and UP-277 AA-class missiles.

As a ground launched missile, AIM-7 which is in the same class as R-27, PL-11 is sufficient for that role. You don't need active radar homing for SAM. For the air to air role, AIM-120 which is in the same class as R-77, PL-12 is preferred.

Now we have AIM-120 using NASAMS.
