St. Petersburg plant Hyundai, which since January 9th came out of downtime, has restarted the assembly of Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio cars. About it with reference to its sources reports the public "Russian Car", according to which the enterprise is fully provided with vehicle kits for the production of about 2 thousand cars. The plant can produce about 20 thousand more cars if it finds a channel for the supply of electronic blocks, and the remaining 50 thousand require "more serious completion and stamping".
Earlier it became known that the enterprise "Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus" may begin production of Kia and Hyundai models, but under other brands, presumably Chinese. According to unofficial information, the eastern partners - GAC and Chery - have already been invited to the plant to familiarise themselves with the capacities and capabilities of the enterprise.
Recall that in December 2023, the interim board of directors of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor approved the sale of the plant in St. Petersburg to the Russian company Art Finance, which had previously acquired Volkswagen's facility in Kaluga. According to the statement, the parties are currently negotiating the specific terms of the deal. Nevertheless, Hyundai plans to continue to provide services in Russia for previously sold cars, the Prime news agency wrote. According to sources, the cost of the deal has been approved at the level of symbolic 140 thousand won (about 10 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate).
At the same time Hyundai Motor will retain the possibility of repurchase within two years. As Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said earlier, Art Finance as a potential owner of the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg is already working out together with industrial partners the possibility of restarting car production at this site as soon as possible. According to him, this should happen before the middle of 2024.
