Feasibility Study Complete: 4 Helicopter Carrier for Navy
  • Feasibility study for electrical propulsion of upcoming LPD class completed.
  • Two prototype 6 MW electric motors will be developed in 18 months from now for testing.
  • 7.5 MW motors will be developed for actual ship which will be able to support 30k tonne displacement.
  • Motors will be manufactured by BHEL under joint venture with a foreign OEM like GE.
  • First ship will be delivered 5 years from signing of contract (say from 2025) and one ship will be delivered each following year.
  • Shall operate at least 4 heavy lift helicopters with DEW based CIWS.
  • May carry indigenous DBMRH (Deck Based Multi Role Helicopter), the naval variant of HAL IMRH under development instead of Mi-17.

I find Italian landing helicopter dock Trieste to be to the best available design which can fulfill our requirements though it is very large around 245m with 38000 displacement.

China already ahead with type 075 LHD Ships why India is taking too long to finalize either locally built or foreign platforms procurement

Because if India orders it today it takes 5 more years to get first ship inducted in India navy

Some how these LHD ships satisfy indian navy planners for need of third aircraft for time being

But that has been discussed in this thread pages back. You don't need to spam every Indian thread with Chinese or Pakistani counterparts. Situations of China and India are different, Pakistan is far apart.

MRSV programme is strictly for helicopter carriers and expand amphibious warfare capabilities (currently only imported INS Jalawashwa takes that role). It simply adds up a new sector for focus on.

Since Indian LPD's don't carry fighter planes, they don't substitute the replacement of a third AC which would need a full CBG also.
