There's lot you can do to damage Chinese'e companies interests in India, while remaining within the bounds of WTO.

Moreover, invoke national security clause to ban or impose high tax on Chinese goods, when it's evident that China is harming our national interests by protecting a terrorist.

Problem is the economic impact as many companies in India have ties to China, even funded by them and Chinese have a lot of people on their payroll.

However, if GoI ever wanted to clean up the system, they will never get a better reason that what happened yesterday.
We can easily ban Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE on the same pretext that USA is giving, instead we are giving them free run here...

That's not possible. National security clause? Lol
Yeah actually...not Lol. Chinese companies get shut out from a lot of sectors based on that very concern. You should do a bit of google search. As a matter of fact, Chinese companies are banned from bidding for port contracts. It can be extended to telecom just like a lot of western countries have done with huawei.

Huawei is one example but we are specifically talking about Indian context and it is us who buy Chinese phones and make them the reach the top 5 smartphone sellers in India, our bloody Indian team is sponsored by one. National security clause can only be used in context of a specific sector which is in danger due to actions of a company, I don't see it happening anytime soon when it comes to India considering the kind of goods that we buy from China. We have already tried to protect our solar panel manufacturers but lost the case in WTO against USA because it was termed as protective and unjust.

Is that supposed to be an argument? Do you even know what I referred to?
Let's be realistic and if it happens in real life please be the first one to inform me. Nobody cares about what if scenarios.

If RCEP is negotiated the whole of ASEAN plus 6 other countries - India, China, Japan, Australia, South Korea and New zealand will become a free trade zone. Free for all and then goods will flow without any impediments.

Most of what's discussed on these forums are 'what if' scenarios. So if you aren't interested in those, you aren't in the right place. Comeback once an action has been taken and analyze it post-facto.

Most of what China does is steal tech and siphon off data, they are a grave threat generally speaking. A case can easily be made for excluding them out from many sectors including telecom as another poster mentioned.

They also fund naxals and other insurgencies in India. So providing a reason to ban them will not be a challenge. It's the cost that's relevant.

The central point is that the real threat is the CPC and we need to have a long term plan to counter their influence in our economy.

How likely or imminent any action is, is a different discussion that we can have; however, scoffing at something without a proper response is just juvenile.

Again, do you know what I was talking about? Solar case with US was not national security, so do some search.

Yes but national security wasn’t the reason sighted in the solar panel case. There are plenty of ways to do that with China including putting up non tariff barriers etc. We need the will which so far hasn’t been forthcoming. In any case my point was limited to say that China has more at risk considering the skewed trade balance.

Last comment on this, we are going off topic

Dude, you were the one who wanted to exercise National security provisions for some juvenile reasons and if I remember correctly you weren't advocating a what if scenario. As I said before, it will never happen and I don't need to explain my stand.

...and we can tweet about the ban with our iPhone.
Huawei phones are expensive anyways.....we could let the others like Xiaomi which are producing in India at cheap price continue. Besides i am not talking only about mobiles and hardware, there are other sectors too like apps, e-commerce, firecrackers, lightnings etc. You do realize that they had put restrictions on our IT and medical sectors in China...

I'm not in disagreement at all. Just make sure the ban is applied to every country who gives foreign aid and weapons to Pakistan. The US has given multiple times of what China has given and our Indian IT and Pharma companies are under a de facto siege there, but if someone speaks out against the US then their green card comes under threat so it's pushed under the carpet and the outrage is calibrated and restricted only against Cheeni maal.
