Finally we are seeing a good level of modular construction at MDL and GRSE. Launched in 2 years and 5 months and decent work on superstructure already completed.

Here was INS Vishakapatnam launch within 1.5 years.

Just the plain old Hull. Ended up taking 6.5 years more till commissioning from launch.

Now hopefully we will see Nilgiri Class ships (except the first and second one) being commissioned within 3-4 years at most, from launch date.
They had better order P17AU/Bs whilst these lines are still purring. The reason there’s an inordinate delay and cost escalation every time with these new classes is there is always a huge gap between works

IAC-1/P75 successors will effectively be starting from scratch. Production lines are not something you can turn on and off and the more complex the product the more true this is, the scale that the IN orders (3-4 ships at a time, only recently 6-7) coupled with the delays in clearing new projects is squandering any expertise that might get built up

March 2024, and we still have not seen a fully completed vessel from the Nilgiri Class. Mind you, after we see a fully completed INS Nilgiri, it will still take about 6 months for trials to end, and be fit for commissioning.
2024-2028, in this 5 year frame we retire 3 Rajput class and induct 1 Vishakapatnam Class, 7 Nilgiri Class, 4 Talwar Class, 1 Kalvari Class, 2 Arihant Class and 1 Chakra 3.
16 Major capital ships!
But its sad to see the same delays like before.

Anyone has any update on the first INS Nilgiri?

10:35 you can refer to earning call of mazagon docks first delivery is to be bound i heard navy had done some upgrades to the p17a while they were taking ukrain war into account which resulted in somewhat longer delivery time

Still taking much longer time compared to global standard. This thread itself started 11 years back. lol Delays becoming number one obstacle for mordernization. For example Japan built JSDMF Maya in less than 3 years though it is bigger.

No idea what they but hopefully the upgrades were worth it to delay the ship a year.

As far as churning out the hulls, our shipyards are not that far behind the Chinese but the biggest problem for us right now is we still have to import most of the subsystems and the propulsion systems that goes inside those hulls and that's the biggest reason of these delays.
