TOI reports that...

The flight was aborted after its guidance system (manufactured by the Research Centre Imarat at Hyderabad) failed yet again. The missile had traveled a distance of 128-km but could not take the required turn at the waypoint and instead nose-dived. It was then put on the self-destruct mode. The failure analysis is underway.

Sounds like a sabotage..

I think second also failed as nirbhay failed to get low altitude
However a big setback , a question to all technocrats , is it that tough to device sub sonic cruise missiles and that too when we are proud joint owner of faster supersonic cruise missile

Nirbhay, India's Indigenous Cruise Missile, Fails Test Midway:biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

BHUBANESWAR: India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile Nirbhay nosedived midway after it was test fired in Odisha on Friday.

According to Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO sources, the missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 am.

Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target 11 minutes after it was test fired, said sources.

The missile had a range of 750-1,000 km. But it nosedived after covering 128 km in the Bay of Bengal.

The missile's first test on March 12, 2013 had also failed as it too fell after 20 minutes of flight. The second test on October 17, 2014 was also not up to the mark as it could not maintain a low height.

The cruise missile is expected to supplement the Indo-Russian joint venture supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, which can carry warheads up to 290 km.

The two-stage missile has a length of six metres, a diameter of 0.52 m, a wing span 2.7 m and a launch weight of about 1,500 kg.

Three factors:
Different systems, different components, different mission parameters.
I don't think that Nirbhaya and Brahmos have got any component in common. Everything had to be developed from scratch.

Just compare the success rates of our PSLV and GSLV projects, despite the fact that the same agency operates both the systems.

Slow down and keep get yourself a new team to take the Nirbhay project further.

Too many failures.

It's not too many, just 2. They will make it work shorty.

And we are in Testing phase, so it can always go wrong. Nothing to worry. And we can't simply count number of successful & failed launch. Tests are progressive, every test validate new parameters. This Test was for low night flight trials which didn't worked and will be tried next time.

Then these tests should not be publicized.

Exactly my point , when we are poised to become a independent of missile factory within 5 yeras and then this happens , it surely raises some serious questions

I am optimistic becuase even tom cruise failed many test before it became one of the most fearsome of all , but this is serious question to our engineer that we are unable to build to build such a system

we are in testing phase since 1947. there is no time for testing ,pakis have gone ahead with drones and cruise missile just by painting in green the foreign maal. who is stopping india for that

can u name anything which DRDO made successfully

nag-fail
trishul-fail
nirbhay-fail
arjun-fail
roustom-fail

DRDO should be dismantle. the budget DRDO had given since inception for R&D,with that same budget India would have bought tanks and cruise missile from foreign countries

You can always list down all failures BUT also list down how many projects have matured.

AND no country will provide u 300+km missile technology & neither u can buy directly. Wat's solution ??

Nag= Been upgraded to Helina and work is under way to convert it into MANPAD too. It did suffered in its Land usage variation due to change in requirement of its carrier NaMica by IA.

Trishul= SRSAM which has been officially shelved on 2008 but same has been used as tech demonstrator and tech knowledge gained has been used in Akash MRSAM.

Nirbhay= Still in testing phase.

Arjun= Already shown its metal against T-90. Why it has not been ordered in mass is upto reasons known only to planners.

Rustom= Not at all a failure. It did crashed in its maiden test flight in 2009. But 2nd test flight has been a success and since then all the 12 tests were success. Now they are upgrading to Rustom-2 armed version.

Guys take it easy, even Russian and US had failures for their missiles.

Please remember that drdo operates in shoe string budget, still they results, not to forget denial regimes operating against us.
