from the above post interesting part

if you look at Lakshya PTA its max speed is Mach 0.7
DRDO Lakshya - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

since it is made by same lab, it will be super cruise missile with true capability of loitering missile based on PTA experience.
This missile is costly but since it is a loitering missile it can be directed to break off its search and attack the target or any other target it is assigned by the commanders ,so once it is fired if no targets are found it can be brought back.

We may ended up seeing something like this :

wow looks like a V-1 reloaded

btw...

The maiden launch of Nirbhay, India's sub-sonic cruise missile, has been further delayed. The launch, which was to take place in November this year, will now be done in January 2013, Dr. Saraswat said.

A DRDO official said the Nirbhay launch was delayed because modifications had to be made in the launcher.:dude: While India already had had a successful supersonic cruise missile in BrahMos, it felt the need to develop a sub-sonic cruise missile. Hence the development of Nirbhay, which would fly at 0.65 Mach. The Aeronautical Development Establishment, a DRDO unit in Bangalore, designed Nirbhay, which had been derived from Lakshya, a pilotless target aircraft. Nirbhay is a two-stage, surface-to-surface, terrain-hugging missile. "It takes the oxidiser from the air.:yey: So it can travel for a longer duration and a longer distance. Its range is around 1,000 km."

but a turbofan/turbojet engine breaths from the atmosphere :cereal: or it is a subsonic airbreathing ramjet engine :cerealspit:

Nirbhay Cruise Missile Family Finally Revealed

The topmost schematic shows the 1,200km-range subsonic Nirbhay nuclear-armed cruise missile, which will be available in both air-launched and submarine-launched versions. The ALCM version will be qualified for use by 20 specially customised Su-30MKIs, while the SLCM variant will go on board the S-2, S-3 and S-4 SSBNs.

The illustration below is that of a smaller, conventional warhead-armed air-launched subsonic variant of Nirbhay with a range of 750km, which will be qualified for launch from combat aircraft like the DARIN 3-standard Jaguar IS as well as Rafale M-MRCA.

finally it is looking close to this

this must be final design because you can launch it from sub easily.
i was thinking if you look at the Specifications of Brahmos
Length 8.4 m
Diameter 0.6 m
this means that Nirbhy can be launch from Brahmos tube
which means

can be done with Nirhby without much modifications.

The MoD-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's (HAL) Bengaluru-based EngineTest Bed Research & Development Centre (ETBRDC) has developed a turbofan.
