As long as we have air superiority and we control the seas our current army is enough to defend our borders!
May be you have not heard or read about 1962 war. We had the so called air superiority back then. And what makes you believe we contol the seas against china. Can yo u elaborate.

The IAF wasnt used back then, thats why we lost. + The Indian soldiers didnt even have winter clothing and had to fight in smaller numbers with WW1 and WW2 equipment. You can have the best battle tank, the fanciest ARs or whatever on the ground, but all this will be useless in a conventional war if the enemy can strike on you from the skies.

PS: Concerning the Navy: As of now, the Indian Navy is the strongest navy in the IOR (excluding the USN)

This topic is concerned with assault rifles so i wont drag this thing but you are contradicting yourself when you say "aThe Indian soldiers didnt even have winter clothing and had to fight in smaller numbers with WW1 and WW2 equipment." and As fasr as ruling the sea's is concerned you belief is based on assumptions than on facts. Chinease are if not decades then years ahead of us as far as sumbmarine warfare is concerned. Our only advantage was our aircraft carrier but chinease will have their own carrier within this decaded. And by IOR if you mean sri lanka, maldives bangladesh and pakistan then you are right. But then again when it comes to china the whole equation changes. Better come out of your utopia. :cool2:

This is a very novice argument usually heard from politicians and Media people due to there ill education about Military warfare, Same statement is then spread like wildfire...

A man, let it be a Solider/ Airman / Sailor or Officer think otherwise, Infantry is the element used in domination over enemy and spear in any fight..

Let it be defensive or offensive, Infantry is the physical element that captures the position on ground if its weak your whole foundation is weak..

IWI and Sig are both alike INSAS, and both are reliable in harsh condition..

CZ 805 BREN and Berrata are top tech rifles, But have serious doubts about there reliability..

SCAR dont have a version for 7.62x39mm, And they didn't replied to RFI..

AK-12 is still in development phase, didn't replied to RFI either..

Indian army should have given a try to XM8 rifles. Though they are not multi calibre weapon but one advantage could have been participation in OICW programme. This could have been The futuristic assault rifle for the F-INSAS program. We could have gained from the developments in the programme like gaining knowledge of development of the kinetic projectiles and Kinetic energy penetrator which the OICW programme is developing.

But there is a difference, the soldiers today have sufficient winter gear, they have automatic weapons. I didnt say that they dont need modern equipment at all. The current IA is capable of defending our borders. But I agree that the is room for improvement.

Concerning sea power: Its true that the PLAN has more ships and better subs, but I highly doubt that it will have good chances to defeat us in the IOR. They would lack in air assets, they cant just bring their entire fleet to us and they might even get in strike range of our AF.

I completely agree that the Infantry is the basis of warfare. But even superior ground forces will loose their advantage in face of a superior air power if we talk about conventional warfare. I cant recall a single conventional conflict that was won without air superiority.

If you are comparing US invasions to some poor armed third world nations than its not well studied hence not understood and cannot be used as examples...

During Six-day war, Egyptians ground forces made Air denial via SA-6 and SA-3, The Air-denial only broke when Israeli Superior ground forces destroyed SAM sites..

-----------------
-----------------

Also to the topic related to the above mention war, IDF was better equipped with FAL on open deserts where as Arab forces where Armed with AK..

One more reason in small arms where huge difference is made..

My wishlist for the Indian Army

HMG- Kord Heavy Machinegun don't know about the licensed NSV, perhaps kunal can shed light on its presence in IA

LMG- Pecheneg (we can make it use Nato rounds if we have licensed production)

Rifle- Czech`s 805 BREN

A bit sad that we are not looking for Russian assault rifle AK-12 for the Indian environment desert, jungle and snow its perfect

You can have Sig than AK-12, AK-12 is not something new there are very minor changes..

Pecheneg is not good as PKM, Soldiers still likes PKM than the other one, Serbian firm made versions of PKM with both Nato 7.62 & 5.56mm ..

----------------

What happened of DRDO Multi Cal RIfle?
Didn't participate as it was not matured in time..
