Re: New Rifles for Indian Army

we can go for the czech made CZ- 805 Bren.its a great AR and the most important thing is that the IA has been operating Czech made Vz-58s for a long time now,so they are pretty familiar with Czech weapon technology!Kunal sir whats your opinion about CZ-805 Bren assault rifle?

@Kunal

Could you give the technical parameters of each of the weapons being discussed so that one can evaluate.

What is important are:

1. Weight.

2. Range.

3. Magazine capacity and its weight (because the on weapon ammunition is to be carried on the man)

4. Length.

5. Interchangeability of calibre.

6. Add ons to make it multifunctional.

7. Rate of fire.

7a. Stoppages and ease and speed of clearing such stoppages.

8. Modes of fire - semi automatic, 3 round bursts, single shot and so on.

9. Stopping power of the weapon and the ammunition.

10. Transfer of Technology/ licence production.

11. Mode of Payment and how much will be ploughed back into India.

12. Maintainability.

13, Being 'soldier proof'.

14. Performance in a variety of climatic and terrain conditions as applicable to India and projected combat zones.

I think it is reasonable. MSBS is not worse than other competing designs, in some terms is even better, as it is trully modular design, not only in terms of changing calliber, but also it is designed from base to be both classic and bullpup design.

BTW the only tool needed to converse it from one variant to other is hex key + proper modules. So it definetly gives a new quality and capabilities. ;)

If there is limited money for modernization of army as in India what would you spend it on buying a sexy rifle and dump INSAS which works fine except in extreme cold or on buying new battlefield air defence system which is 97% out of date.
