Dumb Journalism..

About Insas :

1. There are no Rifles with lose barrels.. lol
2. 1B1 with less than 4kg.. they are showing old rifle 1b
3. Accuracy is good..
4. 5.56mm SS109 round effective range is +550m with Sight..
5. All Rifle does after firing 200rnds or so..

--------------------------------------
INSAS LMG :

1. 700M is short range, Hmm..
2. Anyone hit by those rounds would say about its lethality, go google.
3. All LMG are heavy coz of heavy barrel.. 6kg is small..

--------------------------------------

SVD :

It have all..
Kick backs ?

1.5-2.0km is short range for a 7.62mm Sniper Rifle..

-------------------------------------

Accuracy is good but not safe..

=============================

Though IWI TAR series is good but what written about INSAS and other is just wrong..

May be it is abt changing barrels length. For example for close combat short barrel and for assault role longer barrel ?

I think it will get cancelled. The DOD is trolling around till DRDO comes up with a modern rifle under FINSAS . I though they were developing it.
Kunal do you have any insight into the rifle the multi-caline rifle DRDO was developing.

I think the journalist maybe dumb but the thing is INSAS is going nowhere (as far as the future is cornered) and the army is looking for a phooren gun.Maybe the Private companies can chip in ?

Yes, Price will be high but its overall gud system and may be in serial production the cost will be reduce but again what ever that be will be always higher than INSAS..

TAR 21 special price as per this website is $2,699.95 (bulk purchase shall be less)

IWI Tavor TAR-21 .223 Non-Restricted

2699.95 US dollars = 148929.2420 Indian rupees

INSAS is priced at 25000 INR

you think such rifle will be available to us, if you want something like that go for Korean assault rifle K11.

S&T Daewoo K11 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

they had talk of exporting it to UAE

U.A.E. to Buy South Korean K11 Rifles, Be First Export Customer, UPI Says - Bloomberg

This weapon has both regular rifle and bullpup version made into one rifle. Koreans are proud that they did it before USA.

@Kunal I don't see the Russian company Izhmash in the list of contenders what happened IA is not interested in Russian firearms?

I think we should go for the rifle that has complete family i mean one that has SAW,CARBINE variants..

Article says-
Early next year, the army will begin trials for a new doublebarrel assault rifle.
~
The competition is among gunsmanufactured by wellknown global giants Colt, Beretta, Israel Weapon Industries, SIG Sauer and Ceske. Six guns offered by the five vendors have been evaluated for the army's standard infantry weapon in future.

IA has a penchant for the latest.

I believe IA was the first army to buy the Tavor family of assault rifles.

The final decision should be interesting

The new AK-12 is still undergoing refinements..

Personally i see it need improvements..

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Gr8 minds think alike huh ? :D

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In FINSAS project, Sniper will be 7.62nato and LMG may be 6.8mm so does the Rifle..

Well its really messy, we have to wait to see..

Indian army to upgrade infantry weapons - UPI.com
~
NEW DELHI, Nov. 19 (UPI) - The Indian army is implementing its Future Infantry Soldier Program 2020.
~
A key component of the program is to upgrade Indian army infantry weapons. The upgraded weapons to be acquired include foreign-made assault rifles, carbines, light machine guns and sniper rifles over the next two years, as they are lighter and have longer ranges than indigenously made weaponry.
~
To fill an initial order for 60,000 assault rifles, in the past two weeks the army has completed initial user trials of five guns contending for the contract, including U.S. firms Beretta and Colt, Israel's IWI, Switzerland's Sig-Sauer and Czech Republic's Ceska. Technical evaluations are to commence shortly, The Pioneer newspaper reported.
~
The winning assault rifle will come equipped with two 5.56mm and 7.62mm caliber interchangeable barrels along with conversion kits, with the 5.56mm option being used in a conventional war fighting role as the barrel will provide longer range, while 7.62mm configuration will be used in counter-terrorism and the counter-insurgency environment, as it will provide troops the capability to fire like AK-56 rifles.
_
confusion- some news say double barrel, some say multi calibre ? Are we buying both of them ?

This clear most of our confusions..

By two they meant calibers that is 5.56mm & 7.62mm ( M43 not NATO ) only...

Regarding Sniper and LMG it will be different design and Caliber..
