Why was Spike ordered if it was only to be cancelled? Isn't spike a better option as it saves 3-4 years of time and gives ToT so that it becomes virtually an indian missile which can be made indigenously?

500 million dollars is not a big sum to cancel the deal. Also, a plant has been set up already. More details are needed. Media nowadays are becoming increasingly untrustworthy.

there will be losgistical problems and total tot will be not done, and later on the chances are there army going for the spike instead the indegenious siting the reason of better operationability, the same thing now happening in the arjun and the tejas deals.

I think the development of the man portable ATGM is independent of the Spike deal.
Spike was needed anyway to fulfill the immediate requirement for a modern ATGM.

Spike failed in trails due to similar issues which plagued the NAG before, The reason everyone went for Javelin given ToT is there, Now Americans were not ready for such tot transfer involving 'algorithms for guidance'.then these people went back for Spike.

The spike which failed in earlier trails but Israeli were ready for Tot transfer, Now the IA brass knows that the missile won`t work in hottest desert condition but in other seasons so they gave green for the purchase of spikes, As their were no other alternatives available.

Meanwhile DRDO was already working on such technology and succeeded with NAG in latter trails and now similar seeker only smaller will be applied on Infantry version of NAG, 3-4 years for total development and trails for NAG man-portable version ..

That may not be a thermal sight. Typical thermal sights have larger apertures, and the lenses are reflective.

This is a Konkurs launcher with extra thermal sight mounted next to the 2 lense guidance unit.

Vanilla Kornet launcher

Kornet with thermal sight

US didn't send TOWs with thermals in syria

US service TOW

For the Konkurs/Kornet family, my guess is the lower lens of the guidance unit is the viewfinder, so the thermal unit's "output" covers that.

Have you paid attention to pic posted by me or by Kunal sir. If you would have, then you would not have made the post.

Look again. Two lenses then think what they are. You could also see lens cover. Its Indian launcher. Made according to our needs and environmental conditions.

Could you please link the pics ? Did we make a new launcher with integrated TI ? I knew about the FLAME universal launcher from BDL, but they didn't mention anything about upgrading the sighting unit, and it looks just like the Soviet Fagot launcher's 9Sh119 sight, which already had two lenses for it's Wire SACLOS guidance

where the bottom lens is the operator's scope to track the target, and the upper one is for the guidance auto-tracker to track the missile by seeing the flashing infrared bulb from the missile.

The bottom lens is direct to eye, the top lens has electronics and connects to the 9S451 guidance box via wire.

Both 1PN79 and 1PN86 thermal sights for the Metis and Kornet are clip-on units, and are not integrated with the day sight.

Flight Trials of SANT Missile. Captive flight trials of Stand-off Anti Tank (SANT) Missile, designed and developed by RCI Hyderabad in association with IAF, was undertaken on Mi-35 helicopter

http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx

Possibly the first *official* mention of @DRDO_India's Standoff Anti-Tank (SANT) missile, an extended range version of the HELINA (10-12 km), possibly with a new seeker.
