Just FYI...
Times when it was "ready"
1) 2003 This article says User trials are done!

3rd generation ATGM NAG successfully tested in desert conditions

The Anti Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) NAG, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), were successfully flight tested on Wednesday.

The ATGM NAG was tested at Pokhran's field firing range in Jaisalmer district against two tank targets at different ranges and timings.

The ATGM NAG has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the flight tests have once again proved its capability. With this, the developmental trials of the missile have been completed and it is now ready for induction.

The Fire and Forget 3rd generation ATGM NAG is incorporated with many advanced technologies including the Imaging infrared (IIR) Seeker with integrated avionics, the capability which is possessed by few nations in the world.

Earlier, Imaging Infra Red Seekers were not able to differentiate between the target and surroundings in hot desert temperatures. Now, highly sensitive detectors have been put in the missile for sensing heat or infra red signals.

Director General (Missiles and Strategic Systems) Dr. G Satheesh Reddy said that with the successful test flights, the technologies pertaining to ATGM to engage targets in different conditions have been established.

Department of Defence Research and Development Secretary and DRDO Chairman Dr. S Christopher, congratulated the NAG team for the achievement.

It is known that last trails of Fire and Forget 3rd generation ATGM Nag were conducted on 13 June 2017, in Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer in which also missiles successfully hit the targets.

DRDO finalises NAG ATGM development trials

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced on 28 February that it had conducted two successful test shots of its 190 mm NAG anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) against separate main battle tank (MBT) targets at the Indian Army’s Pokhran test range in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan.

The NAG ATGM is developed between the DRDO and Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) under India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).

According to the DRDO, the two test shots at Pokhran mark the completion of the NAG’s development trials, and the missile is now scheduled for induction into the Indian Army by the end of this year.

Nag ATGM concludes air and land launched trials, ready for induction

☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), Nag, was successfully flight-tested on 28 February 2018 in desert conditions against two tank targets at different ranges and timings. Flight tests of the missile have once again proved its capability. With this, the developmental trials of the missile have been completed and it is now ready for induction.

land and air-based platforms. The strike range of the land variant and air variant of the missile is up to 4 km and up to 7 km, respectively. It is equipped with many advanced technologies including the indigenous IIR seeker with integrated avionics, a capability possessed by only few nations in the world. Nag has ‘Top attack’ and ‘Front Attack’ capabilities and can defeat the heaviest type of armour including ‘reactive’ and ‘composite’ armour of the futuristic main battle tanks. IIR Seeker of the Missile provides day and night operational capabilities against low silhouette tanks, both static and fast moving.

It is worth noting that the indigenously developed seeker for the missile has the ability to discern between its target and surroundings even with a temperature difference of 0.3 °C between them, a capability which isn't present in foreign missiles like Javelin and Spike ATGMs. This seeker can also be used on future man portable missiles, namely DRDO Anamika.

LCH is too new a platform. No missile will be test fired for developmental trials from a new platform. It will add to a second layer of uncertainty whereby the problem could have been originating from the LCH instead of the NAG missile. So, it is best to fire using an older and reliable platform like Rudra.

Do you really think that only 1 test for Helina or SANT happened? Any reasonable country would test a missile at least a dozen times. In fact, generally the test may be for over 40-50 times to collect enough data.

Hence, I don't think that all the news are given out. But if there is a developmental testing, it is definitely from Rudra, not from LCH. If the test is for integration into LCH, then only the test will be on LCh.

India ready to transfer crucial anti-tank missile technology to private industry

BENGALURU: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s privatisation in defence sector policy, India is now ready to transfer crucial technology of its third generationanti-tank guided missile (ATGM) ‘Nag’ + to private industry.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has already kick-started initial activities relating to Transfer of Technology (ToT) for both ‘Nag’ and ‘Nag Missile Carrier (Namica)’, but public sector units like Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) are not completely out of the race yet.

A senior DRDO official confirmed to TOI that the agency is preparing documents for the ToT. “The thought process is there and we are working on the nuances,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Nag, with a range of about four kilometres, is an all-weather “fire-and-forget” ATGM, while Namica is equipped with retractable armoured launchers. It contains launchers and a guidance package, including thermal imager for target locking.

On whether the industry has the capability to build a complete missile system, the official said that right now the Indian industry is yet to display full capabilities. “But we have had proposals that have come in, and we are discussing various options,” the official said.

Industry Proposals

The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), however, argues that the industry will be able to successfully produce missiles so long as there is commitment from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Industries like Baba Kalyani Group, Mahindra, Reliance and L&T have already submitted proposals to the ministry based on an earlier expression of interest (EoI) and request for information (RFI) for the Arjun tank (BMP-II). However, nothing has moved forward so far, and the industry is now cautiously hopeful.

Col HS Shankar (retd), an executive member of SIDM said: “We have the capability and had expressed interest as part of earlier RFIs and EoIs as you know. The DGMF (Directorate General of Mechanised Forces) and the Army for upgradation of BMP-II (Arjun) earlier had included that industry must produce up-to-date state-of-the-art ground-to-ground missiles. But none of the proposals had got the desired response.”

Shankar further said that the DRDO has already been using several private companies for the development of Nag and that it won’t be a completely new area for the industry.

“From where I see it, I think there will be a combination of public and private participation. The selected private industry may partner with BDL and produce the missile indigenously. But it is a bit premature to speculate anything now,” Shankar added

I expect our army to come up with innovative excuse soon.
Lets wait and see. I love to be proven wrong.
They won't be able to play same old trick at the same level anymore. First old generals are retiring and indigenous Anti Tank family has become very big to ignore.

Any of Nag, Helina, Sant and MP-ATGM is going into service. If not all of these.

Rahul in real world, black money is very strong and you cannot compete it with white money or other things. Hope i am wrong here. But seeing defence products in our country for almost last 20 years, make me believe that for next 10 years things cant change, later somethings might change.

Any way we will continue to fight for domestic products.

That's so true. Just looking at the fight Tejas had to put against Gripen despite it being a fantastic product is templet of our mutual concerns wrt indigenous products. I am that sense has prevailed and GOI has given go-ahead for both MK-1A and MK-2.

WRT to Anti Tank missiles. I am glad that DRDO is making it too large to ignore. Eventually, more and more people will ask questions and commercial viability of imports. It may take time but our kind will win.

There is no black money. It is just foreign agents and spies dictating terms taking advantage of cowardly Hindus. They are convincing these cowards that sanctions will be imposed if India does anything. Vajpayee was also a coward who cowered at these bullies. But Modi is not that kind of person. He has made it clear that India will inflict serious consequences if sanctions are imposed and enough forex is not provided.

India is holding 20 crore muslims and can be expelled if foreign players misbehave. So, unlike the cowardly attitude that India needs Arabs/muslims for their oil more than they need India, it is that India can destroy the middle east by expelling muslims and making the middle east starve without food. So, the world needs India more than India needs the world. If the world does not want India to do this, they have to give enough forex to India in the form of remittance and FDI and not meddle in internal affairs or promote any NGOs.

WIth Modi & RSS in power, India will get their due share from the world without having to lose on sovereignty, allow NGOs to thrive or other bullshit like "religious freedom". It is now - shut up and pay up or face consequences.

India is no longer the India of the past - filled with cowards and punching below the weight. India was weak not because of black money but because of cowards

All indigenous items will flow in order without a hassle in this powerful India. NAG, Akash, MPATGM< Tejas will all flow smoothly

Army is slowly being backed into a corner.
They underestimated DRDO, and rightly so as DRDO wasn't always known to rise to the occasion but surprisingly enough they were able to respond to Army's GSQRs.

Just like IAF dragged their feet, changed the goalposts, and made excuses but in the end are inducting Tejas en masse; IA too will eventually have to accept Arjun Mk2s. What they are doing right now is just delaying the inevitable.

Sabka time waste karke kya milla, aakhir mein toh induct karna hi padega.
What's sad is that they didn't (don't) have the foresight to accept it in large numbers years ago and for that our indigenous capacity, wrt tanks and tank subsysyems, has slowed down.

Navy has design facilities but other two services don't have even a desk to envision futuristic technologies to gain technological edge.......They just like to shop like commoners from supermarket.

There is absolutely no vision as to where they will like to place themselves 20 years from now.

Example is Arjun. Army asked CVRDE to design a M1 A1 class MBT because Pakistan was supposedly buying it. Once Pakistan dropped its plan Army became totally uninteresting in Arjun. Now they are saying Arjun is overweight. Even though Arjun MK-2 is lighter than M1A1.

This is the level of their foresight........I won't holdback from saying that Army and Airforce are only reacting to the developments made by our enemys and playing a catch-up at the cost of nation's economy and eventually of its security.
