An officer needs to show he is an officer, different from filthy NCOs. They must maintain the shine on their boots. Peak British colonial legacy hangover running in forces.
But why still the shoulder insignia and collar tabs?

In ops this is unwanted and awkward.

Kab sudhrengay yeh afsaran?
They also had their shoulder insignia during the galwan fight and may 2020 fights.
Maybe that's how they were able to identify Col. Babu during the fight.

The biggest joke is this came from the IA’s offfual handle in a demo in front of the freaking COAS no less- this is the real face of the IA, not the handful of dedicated procurements made ahead of foreign exercises
Bro this is BSF. If you look at the coloured picture you can notice the camouflage they use. Where as Indian Army regular was donning new uniform and MKU Mukut.

Take a look at this photo from the exercise. Notice the level of difference in the gear between the officer (which is still not the latest seen fielded by Ghatak units) and the troops.

Southern, South-Western, Central and Western Command infantry are treated as rear echleon units and are thus equipped with the oldest gear.

This trend of under-equipping units from the Western and South-Western commands seems to go against logic.

They are putting more of a priority on units facing the Chinese threat.
Yeah, but in the case of a two front war, wouldn't Pakistan also be involved? Going by that logic it does not seem safe to just wile the troops away with under-average gear

Limited resources and a reading of Pakistan military offensive posture and readiness probably necessitated the reduction of supplies and materials to the western theater and an increase to the eastern and northern theater.
