Defence corridors will reduce India's reliance on imports and promote exports: MoS Naik
The setting up of defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu would lead to indigenous production of defence and aerospace related items thereby reducing country's imports and increasing exports, Minister of State for Defence Shripad Yesso Naik said on Wednesday.

The Indian aerospace and defence industry has to rise to the occasion to shoulder greater responsibility in making the country 'self-reliant' in defence production towards reaching the goal of USD 25 billion domestic production by 2025, he said at an event.

"The government has set up defence industrial corridors in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

These corridors will act as a well planned and efficient industrial base that will lead to increased defence production in the country," he said at a conference organised by CII and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers.

The Minister said defence industrial corridors in the two states would catalyse indigenous production of defence and aerospace related items, reducing the country's reliance on imports and promoting exports to other countries.

The move would reinforce India's goal to achieve self-reliance in defence, generation of employment, growth of private domestic manufacturers, MSMEs and start ups, he said.

Noting that the global aircraft maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) is a 'multi-billion dollar industry' growing at a robust rate, he said the Indian aircraft maintenance market was yet to "catch up."

"The Indian MRO market is estimated at USD 800 million and is growing at about 8 per cent annually against the 4 per cent world average," he said.

The aerospace and defence market has tremendous growth potential to be 'globally competitive' and further develop into a leading hub and a net exporter for manufacturing, technology development and services, he said.

In recent years, the defence sector has grown to USD 42.83 billion in 2017-18 with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.7 per cent between 2008 and 2016.

"The (domestic) aerospace and defence industry is estimated to reach around USD 70 billion by 2030," he said.

The defence and aerospace industry is on the 'threshold' of transformation under the initiatives of the Government of India to promote Make in India and AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, he added.

SMPP BPJ with K9 handler & FAB Mod + BEL Holographic sights.
Is it just me or the SMPP vest really looks kinda shoddy 🙄, seems like they really gonna hinder users movement and all. ( Am really not gonna compare it to US/UK ones asthetically though )

One more thing, does they carry armoured plates or have some sort of ballistic layer underneath ? ( Could have googled it but am lazy 😂 )

Yes kinda saggy but if you compare with over vests other troops are equipped with then it's almost at same level.

Yes most of the vests whether they are plate carriers, over vests or BP have plate inserts. It is the fabric which adds the protection in BPJ.

What about these RR guys are wearing here, i know the pouches management here isn't spot on ( Only the Havildar managed to nail it😁 ) still they look asthetically superior. It is clearly visible they are packing 10x12 plates underneath with no excess non ballistic material to hinder movement.

Is it like that front line troops will be issued these and other who doesn't face that type of adversary situation like that K9 handler basically those who doesn't face enemy bullet all the time with those SMPP ones ?

And can anybody identify these Special Plate Carrier System?

These are new plate carriers. First SF & Airborne started getting these in 2017 and now being issued to Infantry since 2 years.
No idea about how they exactly issue these body armours.
IMO how to place pouches totally depends on the individual.
Yes aesthetically superior but when it comes to face 7.62mm bullets it's useless.
I have found only 3 images of SMPP till now. So it will be too early to conclude. We shall wait to see how things change meanwhile I will share any corresponding info.
