Our issue of NVGs, day optics for rifles, personal comms etc abysmal. If 5 lakh NVGs are bought in one go then cost is Rs 2000 cr per annum for 5 yrs. Equal to 1 Apache helo per yr. Apache will never be used unlike NVGs which are required every day as our infantry is practically night blind. Our generals think that NVGs are like birthday cake which are to be used once a year, but in reality they are like grains to be eaten every day. We don’t even manufacture infantry RPGs & our Carl Gustaf is only assembled in India. We have nuclear submarine but we did not have Boats for Pangsong Tso lake in Ladakh

Best weapons are those which are never used and its ok to buy them

there is no excuse for the outlandish numbers some things are ordered for

maybe those numbers make sure the kickbacks are covered god knows

Most important point is having nvgs won't do shit yes ofc it's better but it's potential can be matched only when u have entire night fighting training ecosystem
Yes only nvgs won't be effective when night fighting capabilities doesn't exists
That is it's entire chain that follows nvgs then u will find requirement of ir strobes then u will find need of iff system and various other things
Even if u get 5 lakh nvgs and if u start using them just a day before conflict won't give u any advantage
So we require entire night fighting ecosystem built from scratch with all necessary soldier and training equipments

Indian army will never get rid of old hardware that is still in usable state. No matter if they are outdated or not. F-INSAS exists for this reason. They will not throw out old gear and buy everything new to replace the outdated bulky crap. Why ? simple, NATO forces treat their soldiers like pro athletes, we treat our soldiers like laborers and handymen. Difference in mindset won't be cured with big budgets. Army provides as much to each soldier as the army thinks each soldier "deserves".

I said 5 lakh NVGs over period of 5 yrs. also rest of NVG ecosystem is also not costly compared to other Gold plated useless imports.

In 2016, the 10 man section had:-

• 2 LMG (Bren LMG/ INSAS LMG)
• 1 Rocket Launcher (RCL) (Carl Gustav)
• Bayonet strength a.k.a Assault Group is 6 man strong. (INSAS)
• MG a.k.a. Support Group is 4 man strong now (earlier was 3).

In 2023/24 how would our infantry section look like with the addition of Sig 716i, Negev NG-7 and AK 203?

Navy's money army has the budget they should look after there interests navy even made vbss look Decent except sterling carbine

If IN had the budget and love Army gets, then IN would also be as ass-backwards as the Army, lol. All the best Indian institutions/organizations(ISRO, missile development history, nuclear development division, IN, etc.) have had to fight tooth and nail for actually getting capability they want.

The IAF has recently started on the same trend as you can't buy increasingly costly planes, so we'll see improvements on that front.

The Army hasn't yet, so it will most likely happen when it is too late - i.e another ass-kicking that the country
won't forget.

Moral of the story: It seems like the traditional Indian jugaadu-babugiri mindset only stops when they actually have skin in the game - which they can't have when all their salaries, promotions, kickbacks etc are guaranteed..

You can replace a few Sig 716is with AK 203s/AKM (modernized with FAB/SSS kits or not) and MGL-40s and at least 1 of the NG-7 with a BREN L4 or an FN MAG GMPG jury rigged with a unit workshop made buttstock such as below.

One of the Sig 716i may be configured as the SDMR as shown below with an Optel scope
