Btw, if anyone could explain, why did we compete against the same set of countries twice? India defeated the same countries a few days ago.

T-72AMT: The new face.

Specialists of the Kyiv Armored Plant, commissioned by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have developed a new project for the modernization of the T-72 tank. At the expense of its working capital, the company completed work on bringing the T-72A tank to the T-72AMT type.

The new form of the tank, among other things, involves installing night vision devices with third-generation electron-optic converters, a 1K13 night gun, with the possibility of firing a ATGM Combat , an engine V-84-1 instead of V-46, a dynamic tank protection complex T-72UA, radio stations Aselsan, navigation system SN-3003 "Basalt"; Drive wheels with caterpillars and traks as the T-80.

The Kiev armored vehicle traditionally specialized in the repair of the T-72, and at the plant were developed at least fifteen versions of the modernization, which were "ground" for a foreign customer. After all, before the fighting in the east of Ukraine all T-72s were withdrawn from the Armed Forces and were extensively exported actively. The war has returned T-72 to Ukrainian tankers. And now in the Armed Forces there is an urgent need for modernization of T-72A tanks, which during their operation in the army, including during the execution of the antiterrorist operation on the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, have confirmed their reliability and combat capability.

@Akim why KMDB doesn't revive the Buntar or Nota project ? Obj 490A and 477A looked revolutionary. UVZ has already come up with Armata. Funding problem ?

These tanks are for themselves. T-72 (all modifications) were in reserve (until autumn 2014). The development of a new tank is underway, but my opinion is that a new tank is not needed. A large saturation of the battlefield with anti-tank weapons, leaves the tank with little chance. Although the tank can withstand 6-8 hits RPG. The Armata tank is very expensive. Several times more expensive than T-90 or BM Oplot. For the amount equal to the cost of one BM Oplot tank, you can restore 10 T-64 tanks or 12 T-72 tanks.

Old news but still relevant -
http://defense-update.com/20160614_rheinmetall-ups-tank-firepower-with-new-130mm-gun.html
The new 130 mm gun is a precondition for the future tank, known as ‘Main Ground Combat System’ (MGCS) being developed by Germany. MGCS is currently being developed by Germany and France as a future replacement for the Leopard 2 and Leclerc main battle tanks, considering the increasing threat posed by Russian systems such as the Armata (T-14)MBTs.

So now the barrel options are 120 mm smoothbore, 120 mm rifled, 125 mm smoothbore and this new 130 mm smoothbore.

These big guns were seriously being considered in the late 80s. Then the USSR fell and Gulf War showed that 120mm was enough. Now with the emergence of newer generation of unmanned turret tanks, NATO is dusting off these projects it seems.

Technically speaking, up-gunning to 130 and 140mm is a low risk option for western style MBTs as they are heavy and big enough to accommodate the increased mass and possibly bigger breech.
But a technically more elegant solution would be to produce a practical ETC or Electro-thermal chemical propulsion gun. US has been working on the XM360 for quite some time now, and Royal Ordnance, GIAT, Rheinmetall too are actively involved in research in Europe. 2017-2019 was predicted to be the timeframe when these guns would appear on the field.

Why this sarcasm? This is just not a deep upgrade of the T-72A. Ukraine has actively exported its T-72B, so this is only an attempt to increase the combat potential of this tank. For example: Ukraine has a many number of T-64B and BV, so the restoration of the T-64A is not even considered. They want to turn them into heavy IFV.

I just came back from the tank biathlon event today. I saw India competing against Nicaragua, Armenia and Venezuela. I will post my pics and videos in some time. India won.
Great! What are the overall results till today? I believe India lost a few points due to the tanks malfunctioning. That sucked!

P.S. We need to win against the tough teams like Russia, China and Belarus. Nicaragua, Armenia and Venezuela are pushovers!

You already showed the German T-III, the cat was restored for the cinema-studio. Can you think better when reading propaganda?

We have been disqualified bro. Both tanks broke down. I was lucky to be there last Sunday when India won. I wouldn't have been able to show my face if I was there in the most recent event.
