Armata tanks to start being put in service in Russian army in 2015 - official

A pilot batch of new-generation Armata tanks will be put in service in Russia's armed forces in January or February next year, Oleg Bochkaryov, deputy chairman of the government's Military Industrial Commission, said in a radio program on Saturday. Armatas will first be shown publicly during a Victory Day parade on Moscow's Red Square in May 2015, Bochkaryov told Russian News Service. By mid-2015 a plan would be put together of purchases of Armatas for the army for the period to 2010, he said.

Which one is what I am repeatedly asking and none are telling it upfront.

@Kunal Biswas,
Can you move the posts on the tank issue to the correct thread since you are the Mil Tech Mod?

Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

@Ray this is one of the post we were referring to .....

In short when I design some part FOS (factor of safety) is always kept in mind while testing it.It can bear alot more than told.
to meet the unexpected situations and to play safe this is usually done.

Factor of safety (FoS), also known as (and used interchangeably with) safety factor (SF), is a term describing the structural capacity of a system beyond the expected loads or actual loads. Essentially, how much stronger the system is than it usually needs to be for an intended load. Safety factors are often calculated using detailed analysis because comprehensive testing is impractical on many projects, such as bridges and buildings, but the structure's ability to carry load must be determined to a reasonable accuracy.

Many systems are purposefully built much stronger than needed for normal usage to allow for emergency situations, unexpected loads, misuse, or degradation.
So when it comes to tank carrying bridges they are often underrated ......
@abhi_the _gr8_maratha ....

Yes. A bridge designed for 40 ton multi axle wheeled vehicle can support a tracked vehicle of weight 70 tons (IRC Class AA bridge/new standard Class 70R). The bridges as a part of NH and SH network are designed as per standards of IRC Class AA/ Class 70R.

The problem lies with MDRs and rural roads, the Class A and Class B bridges on which won't support T-series tanks either.

As far as military equipment goes, it is applicable to all.

Yet, that underrating cannot be taken as a norm to push to the limit, except in a crisis.

This is what is the litmus test.

Operations are mostly in underdeveloped areas and not where there is villages/ cities which are normally connected with first class roads.

MOUT (military operations in urban terrain) is also to be avoided wherever feasible.

Chinese MBT in desert camo. Is this one going to Iraq @shiphone
newly factory refurbished ZTZ-59D MBT belonging to an armored brigade of N-E china...PLA's Opposing Force would have some unnormalized camo to ID its "exceptional position".. and this unit happened to be one of them...
