Anyone who thinks that T-90S/MS are going to operate in those heights and such tight spaces is ' ill educated ' , Its better to use those DRDO BMP tanks which are accessible in those parts..

There are terrains where terrain specific system works, Perhaps instead of buying such worthless piece of equipment such as T-90MS for such region, One should be looking at other fields for up-gradation such as Artillery, Infantry & Aviation which are more important part of Mountain warfare..
True...hope IA choses DRDO or Mahindra's or Tata's as to build new light Tanks based on FIFV..

The original Plan is to lift these tanks via heavy copters..

Now only helo can lift them is MI-26..
Well, then plan needs to be reconsidered, what if in scenario of chinese sudden aggression, 1 Mi26 fails to takes off due to say engine issue, whole plan will go haywire.
If IA still wants T-90's on chinese front..Then it first has to make sure it has good road and rail connectivity.
Chinese brought railways and paved roads to it front but in india.

Go for light vehicle (Indian made) with a 105mm gun same as striker has and accompany it with Nag carriers (pray it gets successful) .

IA operate few T-72M1 at those heights but in other sectors only BMP-2 can access..

In presence of PLA Gun mounted systems design to operate over mountains, It is important to make something able to counter it, BMP-2 is not upto the job..

Modular FICV with 120mm WPB Anders turret should be the way to go, both wheeled and tracked, along with 40mm cannon modules, automatic 120mm mortar modules, NAMICA module, AA Module, CIWS module and Radar module.

Hope MoD does not delay with FICV. Tata FICV looks to have the capability to be like a Indian Stryker platform.

Guys I need to make some statement here.

Status of the multirole modular platform "Rydwan" is currently unknown to be honest. Our MoD is silent, besides a rather respected and reliable source, magazine "Raport", no other source, be it similiar specialized media or official sources from MoD, do not say anything about project "Rydwan" as deleted.

Perhaps new platform requirements are still not completed and there is some sort of struggle inside MoD to replace aging BMP-1's with new IFV as soon as possible, thus foreing vehicle will be bought as stop gap and then new platform without such time shortage, can be designed more carefully and precisely?

Or perhaps program had been splitted to a separate platforms, a new IFV/Multirole Modular Platform of the light/medium weight class, to as soon as possible replace BMP-1's, MT-LB's and M113's, thus currently avaiable vehicle had been choosen, and new Main Battle Tank focused platform to replace T-72's and PT-91's will be designed and fielded later?

These are however my speculations, as I can't find any reliable information in the official sources.

This means, if everyone is interested in this subject, will need to wait even a few months, maybe even to the MSPO exhibition in september.

Is this relevant? (Book authored by Colonel Adam Wiśniewski)

Project "Rydwan" - New Polish Multipurpose Platforms. - Page 3
No not for project "Rydwan" directly, I shared this title to the person that asked about Polish developments in vehicle armor protection. I have this book, it is very detailed scientific work, it describes several armor designs developed in Poland. I do not know if this book is avaiable outside Poland and in different language, for example english.

The one they are talking about is not the 2S25 Sprut-SD, but its replacement, which will be a T-90 gun on a redesigned turret mounted on BMD-4 hull.

Its probably start when the project will be re-started by IA ..

I was asking about what role do they( Armored personal carrier and Infantry fighting vehicle) perform in battlefield?
The basic difference is the 'staying power' on an objective & fighting trough the objective. This staying power is given by the weapon array that the armoured vehicle has.

An APC is basically a battle taxi, while the ICV being better armed can assist the infantry that it is carrying to fight on the objective as also be productively used when the inevitable counter attack comes.

In what operation scenario is a light tank to be used?

It maybe helidroppable, but once on the ground in the plains or deserts, where tanks are used, will it have the capabilities to counter MBTs?

Does it have the capability in armour protection and armament to counter an MBT?

If it is for the mountains or hills, it cannot be used in Ladakh or J&K, because the area East of Ladhak is a Plateau where the Chinese are and in the East. once the mountains are circumvented, one is on the Tibetan Plateau where the Chinese will use MBTs.

If Light tanks were really essential, then why was the PT 76 scrapped? At least they were amphibious and could be used in riverine terrain.

I have not understood the logic. Maybe I have missed something.

The US Strykers are basically for insurgents in Iraq and so that is logical and they have money to squnader.

But India?

Anders Multirole Combat Vehicle, Poland

Anders was developed to replace the existing BMP-1 fighting vehicles in the Polish Army. The series production is expected to begin in 2015. The army is expected to replace its BMP fleet with about 700 Anders vehicles.

Design and development of the Anders began in 2008 and the first light tank prototype was completed in 2010. It passed the field tests conducted using RAUG CTG 120mm cannon fire shooting and technical features in October 2010.

OBRUM developed the vehicle in collaboration with Wojskowe Zaklady Mechaniczne and the Military University of Technology (WAT). The project was financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Design of the Anders vehicle

The tracked armoured vehicle is designed with a unified chassis that allows it to be configured for different mission variants. It features an all-welded hull and turret. The entrance for infantrymen is provided to the vehicle's rear.

The crew seats are located in the hull. The modular armour of the vehicle provides protection against 7.62mm guns. Add-on armour modules provide protection against 25mm projectiles.

The vehicle can be configured with interchangeable modules to perform different tasks. It can have six or seven load-bearing wheels based on the mission requirements in the tracked platform. The battle field management and intercom systems were provided by WB Electronics. The vehicle is transportable by air.
Mission variants

Anders serves as a multipurpose modular platform for the development of different mission variants. Planned variants include a reconnaissance vehicle, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), armoured recovery vehicle (ARV), fire support vehicle (FSV) or light tank, engineering reconnaissance and support vehicle, anti-aircraft artillery vehicle, self-propelled 155mm howitzer, medical evacuation vehicle, rocket launcher and radar carrier.

The first Anders prototype, a fire support vehicle configuration (light tank variant), was unveiled in September 2010 at the MPSO defence industry exhibition in Kielce.

It can carry three crew members including a driver, commander and gunner, along with four soldiers. The armoured infantry fighting vehicle (AIFV) was unveiled at the MPSO 2011. It can carry three crew members and eight fully equipped troops.
Armament on the Anders Multirole Combat Vehicle

The FSV is equipped with RUAG 120mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, UKM-2000C 7.62mm NATO standard coaxial machine gun and ZSMU-1276 KOBUZ remotely controlled weapon station.

The KTO Rosomak Hitfist-30P turret of the IFV variant is armed with a 30mm-50mm cannon, SPIKE anti-tank missile launcher, GROM anti-aircraft missile launcher and a 7.62mm co-axial machine gun.

The ARV is equipped with a 30t winch, 15t crane, dozer blade and KOBUZ remotely controlled weapon station.

In September 2011, the company unveiled the Anders multipurpose tracked vehicle mounted with Belgian CMI Defence CT-CV 105mm calibre cannon. It was earlier tested with 120mm and 30mm calibre canons.
Self-protection and armour

The vehicle is designed for protection against mine blasts and kinetic threats of more than STANAG 4569 level III.It can be increased to level V with add-on armour modules. Anders also features StopFire-SF-01 fire suspension system, SSP-1 Obra 3 laser warning system provided by PCO and 10 81mm grenade launchers.

The vehicle is also protected by an integrated active defence system of Ukranian Zaslon and Rafael Advanced Defense System. URC Systems supplied its Star Light 3 remote controlled improved explosive device jammer.
Propulsion of Bumar Group's combat vehicle

Anders is powered by a MTU 8v 199 turbocharged diesel engine generating 720hp (530kW) of power. A 120kW electric generator, situated between the engine and hydro-mechanical transmission, powers the onboard electronic systems.

The basic platform weight of the vehicle is about 20t and that of the light tank configuration is 33t. The power / weight ratio is 22hp/t. This gives Anders an on road speed of 72km/h. The vehicle can cross gradient of about 60%, trench crossing of 2.6m and vertical obstacles of 1m. It has a range of approximately 600km.

@Ray sir for some reason the deal didn't went through

So it is basically a replacement for ICVs and not a tank by a long shot.

Understandable.

Sir, The objective is to provide fire support for Infantry and counter enemy light tanks and Armoured vehicles, It has dynamic ad dons to resist heavy caliber tank rounds and various anti-tank rounds, Its armament is of same size of a MBT and can fire same rounds,The vehicle will be used along with ICV stationed along LAC, PT-76 is a good tank and its unfortunate it was scrapped, The tank could have been mordanised ..

In what operation scenario is a light tank to be used?
