Both M 41 and and M24 chafee are placed at various cantt as war tropihies. Some of these captured Paki tanks were brand new in Paki service when captured.

2S14 "Stinger"

Review

The 2S14 Zhalo (translated in Stinger) was a Soviet build prototype using a BTR-70 with a turret housing a 100mm 2A19 (T-12 Rapira anti-tank gun). I do not know why they canceled this lightweight tank destroyer, maybe the lack of firepower to knock down a Battle Tank.

BTR-90 BM "Bakhcha"

The BTR-90 was a prototype what is build in a small number. The vehicle was designed to replace the BTR-70 and -80 models.
The models were with a BMP-2 turret and the BMD-4 turret, seen here. This model is BTR-90M and the turret is called 'BM Bakhcha'. The axles are now used in the Medved vehicle and the BTR-82 series uses the same axles and suspension.

Based on an unprecedented modular concept of CMI Defence, the Cockerill® 3000 Series is a single platform enabling a turret to accommodate guns of different calibres and the corresponding technological modules: automatic 25 mm, 30 mm, 30/40 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm calibre guns, along with direct fire guns of 90 and 105 mm calibre. These systems can also fire missiles.

Build the light tank at home. Use the earlier French built AMX-13 technology to either refurbish the old ones or build new one.

That stupid of RFI has gone too far in india. This is here the generals become Babus and start a new round if bureaucratic mess. Enough of it. Dump these procedures.

A stupid question which always bothered(still bothering) me when light tanks come into picture.

What is the need for 100/105 mm gun on light tank.

That gun occupies lot of space and weight. Space can be used for more fuel or so, while weight can be used for NERA/ERA armor.

100/105 gun does no good against modern tanks. These gun's ammo doesn't have range of 120/125 mm ammo range against soft bunkers. Too damn heavy and occupy prescious space with no practical use.

Gurus, I know that I am missing something, please explain the big picture to me.

My Idea of armament is one Bush Master(or similar) cannon with 600 rounds. A light machine gun with 1000 rounds(7.62*51) as secondary armament. 8 NAG or similar ATGMs special for Tanks and other hardened stuff which can't be taken by 30mm explosive rounds. Protection: both NERA and ERA to increase the chances of survival.

30mm against concrete fortification is not effective, ATGMs are expensive and have slow rate of fire and are slow moving projectiles, 105mm are quite effective against concrete fortification within combat ranges so does on IFV and other light tanks which is why this vehicle is being considered ..

IA changed specs though and want 120mm, The reason BMP Tank was not selected and Anders and other came into lime light ..

Ok,image arrives of a new Chinese tank. One source says it's a new light tank,Type-15. If it's a light tank then definately a upgraded ZTQ-105. Though personally it seems to me VT-4 MBT.
If light tank, then China brings three light tanks in recent times.... ZTQ105,VT-5 (export pupose),Type-15

We are still thinking how to get one
Better attatch L7A4 with Tank Ex 13T turret, and place it on Vijayanta Mk-2 hull.. No one can bring violation of intelectual property rights

  • so called ZTQ-105 does't exist...but after at least two rounds of development production of different prototype vehicles, you might have seen quite some pix of different vehicles. but none of them would be given the official codename(ZTQ-XX) under the national military standard ...

  • if the so called Type 15 exists, then it will be the ZTQ-15...and the first batch of LIGHT TANK has been in service for nearly two years...
---------
the transportation before the end of year 2015...

and in the execise of this year...

  • obviousely the VT-X serial is the codename of export projects. VT-4 is a heavy one and VT-5 is light tank ,and both of them are export projects since the very beginning which means none of them would join the PLA army...
--
the VT-5 on the Airshow China 2016

and the VT-5 on Armor&Anti-Armor Day of year 2017 with different turret armor layout

One of possible configuration of light tank of 30-35 tons category:

tank ex turret :

mated with Abhay ICV hull :

this can easily rival Chinese light tank of 30-35 ton class.

Abhay IFV hull alone will be 20-22T,on that Tank Ex 13 T turret? That will be 35T, army requirement is 22T only
And if a light tank of 35-36T category to be made then it's better to use ERA enfored T-55 hull.... It will give better protection...

T-55 chassis weight around 27tons, With mordanised engine and transmission i assume its weight will be around 28tons, Tank - Ex turret is around 13 tons and it will increase to 15tons with ERA and added electronics ..

It will be around 41- 44 tons, More of a Medium tank ..

=================

TATA FICV program can get some results with DRDO light turret involving Arjun`s gun ( Not Tank -Ex ), TATA already have plans to mount a 105/120mm gun on Kestrel ..

Abhay IFV hull alone will be 20-22T,on that Tank Ex 13 T
And if a light tank of 35-36T category to be made then it's better to use ERA enfored T-55 hull.... It will give better protection...
