New Polish Light Tank Concept and a New Family of Vehicles

By January 2010 Polish defense company started to cut the first pieces of steel for a demonstrator of technology of a new light tank. This will be shown at the MSPO Defense Fair in Kielce this year. The light tank is supposed to be the first of a whole new family of vehicles its also replacement for polish t-72s..

According to this article the new vehicle will be a joint enterprise with India's BEML corporation. India's requirement is the vehicle has to be able to be deployed by helicopters (by hanging it under the chopper):

Polski czołg z Indiami

Indyjski BEML podpisaÅ‚ umowÄ™ z polskim OBRUM o udziale w programie budowy lekkiego czoÅ‚gu – mobilnej platformy bojowej nowej generacji.

Umowę podpisano wczoraj podczas wystawy DEFEXPO-2010. Według prezesa BEML, V. R. S. Natarajana, projekt będzie oparty na programie realizowanym przez OBRUM (Polski wóz bojowy XXI wieku). Indyjskie wymagania obejmują możliwość przewożenia pojazdu w rejon pola walki podwieszonego pod śmigłowcem. Czołg w wersji indyjskiej ma być produkowany przez BEML.

OBRUM ma wspierać BEML także w innych przedsięwzięciach, m.in. budowie pojazdu inżynieryjnego na bazie czołgu Arjun, remontach i modernizacji czołgów T-72 oraz modernizacji BMP-2. Projektowanie wozu zabezpieczenia technicznego na bazie Arjuna ma być koordynowane przez CVRDE (Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment) Chennai, a finansowane przez indyjską agencję projektów obronnych DRDO.

Warto dodać, że na DEFEXPO-2010 ofertę udziału w modernizacji indyjskich czołgów T-72 przedstawił też amerykański koncern Raytheon. Stronę indyjską w tym przedsięwzięciu miałaby reprezentować spółka Larsen & Toubro. Amerykanie mieliby dostarczać komponenty elektroniczne, a L&T zajęłaby się ich montażem.

BEML podpisał także umowę ze słowackim Tanaxem w sprawie budowy pojazdu opancerzonego przeznaczonego do użycia w operacjach antyterrorystycznych i przeciwpartyzanckich. Słowacy mają dostarczać działko, które będzie montowane w Indiach, a BEML będzie zaś produkować kadłub pojazdu.

W czasie DEFEXPO-2010 BEML ogłosił otwarcie nowego zakładu w Palakkad w Kerala. Będzie tam uruchomiona produkcja gałęzi lotniczej koncernu. BEML zainwestował w ten zakład 2,6 mld rupii (ok. 50 mln USD).

Polish tank with India

Indian BEML has signed an agreement with Polish OBRUM to participate in the construction of a light tank - mobile platform next-generation battle.

An agreement was signed yesterday at the exhibition DEFEXPO-2010. According to the President of BEML, VRS Natarajana, the project will be based on a program implemented by OBRUM (Polish XXI century chariot of fire). Indian requirements include the possibility of breakdown in the district suspended the battlefield by helicopter. Tank in the Indian version is to be manufactured by BEML.

OBRUM BEML also has support in other ventures, including construction engineering vehicle based on Arjun tank, renovation and modernization of tanks T-72 and the modernization of BMP-2. Technical security design of the car-based Arjuna is to be coordinated by CVRD (Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment), Chennai, and funded by the Indian defense projects agency, DRDO.

It is worth noting that the DEFEXPO-2010 offer of Indian participation in the modernization of tanks T-72 introduced a U.S. company Raytheon. Indian Party in this project would represent the company Larsen & Toubro. Americans would have to supply electronic components, and L & T would handle the assembly.

BEML also signed an agreement with the Slovak Tanaxem on the construction of armored vehicles for use in anti-terrorist operations and przeciwpartyzanckich. Slovaks are to provide cannon, which will be assembled in India, BEML will produce the fuselage of the vehicle.

During DEFEXPO-2010 BEML has announced the opening of a new plant in Palakkad in Kerala. There will be air launched production industry group. BEML has invested in the company 2.6 billion rupees (about $ 50 million).

Yes, BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) is a PSU. It specializes in heavy vehicles such as earth-movers and road-rollers.

Their is no word for APC, India is already focusing on Abhay APC, But it is possible in future, IA might chose the universal chassis with Abhay 40mm turret..

Lots of questions, though i can say this IA will purchase the tank also the ARV, Regarding APV i would say we must to stick with Abhay APC..
Regarding induction and trails and etc info, I will update as soon as it publish on Polish news and official sites..

This would be first time it undertook heavy Military projects, for that reason it opened a new production facility in Palakkad in Kerala..

The new tank is part of 100+ light tanks of IA..

APC= Armored personal carrier..
IFV= Infantry fighting vehicle..

BMP-1/2 is a APC also IFV, It can carry 8 troops also equipped with 1x30mm cannon + 1x30mm AGL + 1x7.62x51mm MG also have 1x ATGM for antitank role..

BMP-2 is extremely effective against Infantry it can destroy Infantry fortifications, suppress enemy defenses, It can carry troops under heavy small arm fire also can run over personal minefields and dismounting troops on strategic locations....

It can be also used for Anti tank role in dug-in positions..

APC's are armored vehicles meant for carrying troops to the front and then retreat back to safety whereas IFVs carry troops to the battlefield and stick on to support armor and troops. IFV's generally have better firepower.

APC is consider as a vehicle which can carry troops inside a armored body ( Various roles described in my previous post ) where as a IFV is a armored vehicle primarily used for suppression of enemy assets like Infantry and other hardware ( soft skin vehicles also enemy APC/IFV ), But now days most APC are also IFV ....

Sir, what he status of Abhay now. Last time when i saw that they said it is a TD as of now (5 years back), It has got what it want from engine to armour (Kanchan, non-sandwiched one)
