Apart from shiv aroor's own views is there any single source for mk1a order?
Those aren't his "views". He has access to a lot of people that us folks don't including HAL, ADA and IAF officers. So if he's claiming that the IAF, ADA and HAL are seriously discussing the additional 50 Tejas Mk1A order, then take it at face value.

Basically the IAF knows just how good the Mk1A is going to be. They have first hand data on hand plus the positive experience of the first 2 Tejas Mk1 squadrons.

That has more to do with certain "internal" issues that are against spending on defense, but lets not derail the thread..
hi Roland, any South American press reports on what's going on at Aero India? Brigadier Xavier Isaac was there and HAL officials stated that Argentine pilots have test flown the Tejas already.

Bengaluru, Feb 15: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed a contract with Argentinian Air Force (AAF) for supply of spares and engine repair of legacy two tonne class helicopters.

The contract was signed by Brigadier General Xavier Issac, Chief of Air Force, AAF and C B Ananthakrishnan, CMD, HAL.

Brigadier General Xavier Issac said the contract for support service is a stepping stone for the future engagements and defence co-operation between India and Argentina.

Ananthakrishnan said this contract will further pave the way for giving new impetus for defence exports in the Latin American region. HAL has been supporting the Indian defence services and will extend all the support to the AAF too.

They have signed a support contract for engine spares and repairs of old 2 tonne class helis. I think FAA is testing waters with India & depending on how it goes may come back in the future for a deal with Mk2/AMCA. For now I think they will probably go with used Danish F-16s for their fighter requirement as @Roland55 has hinted several times.

The reports or news came around the deal for helicopter support, as for the Tejas evaluation...not much.

The previous post gives a pretty good idea of whats happening, the helicopter deal is a first step for a future where india can offer its products in South America, of course argentina has something else for india, the maintenance of the Mi-171 helicopters, that argentina currently has grounded since they can get russia to finish overhauling the engines. Maybe in a future HAL help with all inspections of the Mi-171s.

Stop talking about Argentina and Egypt seriously

it’s clearly not happening

Let the GoI grow some sense first and start pushing defence exports seriously at a governmental level and not leaving HAL out in the cold to do up against the global defence industry and their governments

A lot of this hot news if members here look closely enough.

The additional offers for mk1a are supposed to come post 2025 once the current orders are done so that's a big if.

Similarly mmrca is such a long saga that I'll hold my horses until it's done.

Tedbf and mk2 need to roll out before 2030 first before we start to take this new seriously.
Yeah pretty much, everything else is just noise.

might order more MK1A is no different from MRFA fantasies

they still have to play out the whole RFQ circus, any additionally orders won’t see an increase in the 16/year capacity as they won’t place orders for a long time

Hilariously it looks like the MK1A will be the only new jet the IAF gets from 2022-2030 (the MK.2 might sneak in a few numbers towards the end of 2030) but these clowns are busy trying to get everything but more MK1A

Mind blowing how poorly the IAF’s fleet is managed

Sometimes it is not about the results but about the practice and the execution thereof. We re getting the practice of executing and that is way more important than whether they are serious about getting Tejas or not. It is learning the process of how to export to other countries and build atop lessons learned for future endeavors.

That’s true but the hysteria around these bids is tiresome. Pretending like they are certain and then having the deals scrapped or awarded to others because the reality is HAL has no hope without the GoI representing them

Its about luck, & HAL trying their luck, if they gets lucky, hal able to sell their product. Its like lm offering f35 to sell f16 to india. By showing lca, alh, lch etc they show their engg. capability, which may help others to consider hal as a alternative source for new products, repair, support, spares etc. which includes indian, russian[mi17, su30 etc] etc.

IAF will know how good it is once it starts receiving Mk1A. I believe the nos. are being increased because Mk2 is delayed & the IAF has to maintain its squadron strength.

That's too logical for IAF , instead they will wait of mrfa until 2035 and close the production line for mk1a and also reject mk2 for being overweight
