Tejas is greatest success story that could happened India's defence sector. Development time of TEJAS is same as compare to any fourth generation fighter despite of ZERO previous knowledge and managed 75% indigenization and will be more than 92% indigenous by 2025. We have developed whole aerospace industry but still people dare to call it a failure. ADA/HAL/Govt. All did brilliant job except IAF which believe in begging. No matter how much you train a begger to behave like a Boss but he will end up begging one day.
It is both.. Success.. yes.. no crash till date.. very potent platform with very limited resources allotted initially... despite of IAF demands of tweaking and upgrading... Failure... yes.. the IOC.. the FOC... the rate of production... the contract... the red tapism ...

Sir, with all due respect to you and also to the incompetency and selfishness of HAL, they can't afford to close active production lines of Tejas mk1a after completing order of total 123 mk1a. Remember the ronadhona after completing su30 mki production. MWF Tejas Mk2 will surely fly with glory in IAF colors 🖖
With AESA radar and DARE suite Mk1a is a potent fighter jet, which has surpassed the expectations in replacing Mig21s. Let's hope Uttam radar completes tests on time, other than it there won't be any difficulties in MWF.

OIC granted in 2013 and FOC in 2019. F-35 also don't have FOC still manufacturing in masses so ask IAF why they were playing 20-20. If You order 20 aircraft then don't expect mass production. Contract has nothing to do with Tejas. Red Tapism for Tejas only not for Rafale or any other emergency procurement which is happening now days allmost on every day

We never know... how about requirement to integrate laser gun & only then we place order for MWF .

Three years ago most members here were also certain that Mk1 would be produced at 24 per year today. So we never know.

Yeah, I agree ever increasing demands of IAF poses a threat for timely completion. Still the same demands have made Tejas a potent jet, otherwise we all know how good Mk1 is.

Tejas is the best in it’s class because it uses top of the line expensive imported equipments that’s the reason why it never crashed the engine used in Tejas is far superior to any other engine we have except the Rafale engines
Tejas is expensive but top notch

LOL no credit to FBW developers/designers also thousands of other sub-systems developed in India. So Gripen use nearly 70+% imported material (by sweden & definetely more import % than India) didn't it have crash.

True but comes off a bit as understating HAL work.....avionics, control systems (not sure where we got the hydraulics) and many more reasons to have a crash but didn't, so they know what they are doing.

Some people push their fantasy more rather than facing reality.
To Whom HAL have to produce 24 jets/yr ?? To Republic of Sudan?? There is 22 more jets need to deliver by 2023 so why on the earth HAL will produce 24/yr?

Obviously they were also hoping that many orders would be placed 3 years ago. To be fair requirement # is there to replace mig21 but orders are not. In hope of MWF, they will continue operating migs/jaguars only.

Tejas can be fitted with Brahmos but they’re are not as cheap as scalp but it can be utilised to hit high value targets jabbatop was high value target
Isn't that the brahmos ng because it has been miniaturised which can be fitted to tejas.the Sukhoi itself can only hold one normal one.

Engines and Radars are the most important components in my opinion if Tejas used everything imported but only the Radars and engines were indigenous I would consider it a bigger achievement

Engines, radars, comms and seekers as these are the ones that can be sanctioned (engines) or jammed or intercepted.
