Off topic but won't it be better if we develop orca as a light weight 5th gen fighter, say an ALCA, I have my reasons to say this
5th generation fighter's have many draw backs first high flight cost and need to re apply stealth coating on them. This will severely effect our sortie rate. ( interception which is the basic propose of our tejas).
5th generation fighter's have limited payload capacity they can't carry big bombs and Fuel pods severely decreasing their range.
High cost to build and procure which means difficult to induct in large numbers.
In naval aviation range matters a lot.
New radar developments for 4.5 generation aircraft. Gan based asea radar will give tremendous power to scan and detect 5th generation fighter's. System's like spectra and jamming pods given 4.5 generation aircraft another edge.

So it's simple you can't keep every bullet in your arsenal as silver bullet you need some steel ones and some silver one's.

Our AMCA is already a medium weight 5th generation fighter's their is no point in building a 5th generation aircraft which is of light weight category.

We need 5th Generation bombers to bomb terror hideouts Inside Pakistan with surgical precision our mentality needs to change we have defensive mentality that’s why we didn’t procure 5th Generation jets

But my point is we are going for rv mk2,russis too is also opting for a light weight fighter, surely there is advantage to this

Tejas should be merge into mwf which is rightly being done, tedbf is for navy, merge orca and rvmk2 into one platform, mrca 2.0 is a necessity let it remain that way ,
83 tejas is basically a tech demonstrator I mean yes they are good but they are paving ways for mwf, orca ,rv mk2

Let sukhoi(super sukhoi) amca be the first line of attack and defence
Let rafales(possibly 114) and possibly orca plus mk2 second line of attack and defence
And finally rest for mirages, jaguar, mwf and tejas mk1A

This is not a cricket match where you send your B-Team to play against their B-Team...we need to win against whatever they throw at us! Please remember, the IAF had ordered 20 LCA Mk 1 in 2006 and 20 more in 2010. The last of these will be delivered by 2022 or so!

The "B-Team" comment underlines the push back that the Tejas faces within the
@IAF_MCC
.Coming from a decorated veteran , it makes you situp and think. Sermons from an Airforce which does not have Flanker HAS at Key Bases despite the first inductions of the type in 2001-2002

Why is it so hard for IAF to accept variation in force. Not every aircraft needs to be rafale level. Our force structure/ requirement is so large that we can employ a variety of aircrafts based on needs.

Much of his complain is against HAL not Tejas. HAL played its hand too far by attacking armed forces for their interest in imported aircraft (NUH fiasco). Now it's been returned in kind by the top veterans by highlighting delays on their part.

Unfair to attack AVM Nambiar who has contributed much in Tejas program. His words carry far more weight than any fanboy hounding him on twitter for calling Tejas as a B team.

That 20 Tejas Mk1 buy tweet infuriated me beyond measure. Compare that to any other IAF acquisition, this is a side order of french fries (not so French though). IAF's prime purpose is to fight and defend Indian airspace with what the country can afford, not screw the country by forcing acquisitions and bankrupting them. If throwing only more machine power is the key to winning wars.. then what is the use of training IAF pilots? Since we claim that we have one of the best airforce pilots.. we have to defend the country with whatever we got. Certainly not to say we would have won if we had Rafale.

I was angry till i saw your reply and looked at his designation and then i became sad. The biggest challenge and setback Tejas program faced is not the US sanctions or delays or kaveri engine failure.. it's name is AVM :tsk:
