And the reality is that both of Indian enemy Pakistan and china operate hundreds of third gen jet each .
China has barely 24su34 and some j16D to be called 4.5 gen rest of all are 3rd gen relics and 4th gen j10s.

Similarly Pakistan has 200+ mirage 3/5 and f7 still operational and most will be replaced by jf17 block 1 and 2 of which are barely a match for even lca mk1.

Similarly only 20 f16 of Pakistan are somewhat modern rest of all are at the end of service life with obsolete avionics . None has aesa nor any program to get any soon .

Against these kinds of jet lca mk1a with elta2052 and derby ER / Astra 1-2 is a solid beast.

IAF needs both quality and quantity . It needs to operate 700 + jets ..how many rafale can it afford?

Even if it gets 100+ rafale along with 300 su30mki it still need 300 more jets. And now to take on china even more probably . So lca mk1 / mk1a is the best way to build up the bulk at affordable rate and fast now as production is established.

Have you even wondered why France or USA or Russia never import foreign jets ? And china is trying to follow the same path . I wonder what would be future of their airforces if there officers discarded teamB?? If french airforce insists on having a 5th gen fighter from USA rather then 4th gen rafale what would be future of french air Force. !!

Perhaps we should start importing pilots too from France and Russia and USA. I'm sure they will be much better than Indian ones afterall they have more collective air war experiences and why should India settle with mediocre loosers of team B . Surely we need the best .

Production depends on unit number as no one will invest in production lines without solid orders. Its a bit like Army shouting Arjun is heavier than T90 while it itself wanted a Four Crew tank. Unrealistic Expectations leads to disappointments.

IAF planning 18 LCA Trainer and 83 Single seat Tejas Mk1A?

Original orders for 40 Tejas Mk1 had 8 LCA-Trainer aircraft included in the previous contract which was to be manufactured after production of 16 IOC and 16 FOC LCA-Tejas MK1 had been delivered an additional 10 Trainer was part of the 83 jets which IAF had planned to procure with upgraded configuration now called as MK1A jets, and now it has emerged as per latest media reports that, they might be some tweaks in the order list and IAF and HAL might manufacture 18 LCA Trainers in MK1 FOC configuration and 83 Single seat Tejas in Mk1A upgrades instead. Original 83 Tejas Mk1A order had 73 Single-seaters and 10 Trainers, but now these plans seem to have been dropped, and instead, all 83 will be Single-seat Tejas Mk1A. HAL plans to start manufacturing 18 LCA Trainers in MK1 FOC configuration once the manufacturing of the current 16 jets in FOC configuration is over in 2021 before it commences manufacturing of 83 upgraded Tejas MK1A. Revised order could mean, IAF inducting 10 more LCA-Tejas MK1, taking the total fleet of LCA-Tejas to 133 which includes 16 IOC and 16 FOC Mk1 configured LCA-Tejas, along with 18 LCA-Trainers and 83 Tejas Mk1A. While HAL is yet to officially confirm this news there has been growing chorus to expand orders of Homegrown jets due to possible two-front war-like situation which IAF will have to deal with in the future.

What planet are you living in ? How can you compare France with India. France does not have a hostile neighbour within a thousand miles of its border. India on the other hand, has 2 permanently hostile neighbours - one that is dedicated to its destruction, and China which is also forever hostile to India. India is the only country other than Israel that is surrounded by hostile neighbours.

So dont blame Indian or Israeli pilots if they say I want the best plane we can afford, and I dont shit where its made.

Difference between Israel and every other big power and india.
Israel was threatened they overcome the challenges and started development of Indigenous world class military manufacturing capabilities. Be it in next generation of radar and or in simple missile technology.
Chinese-they were threatened by far bigger adversary USSR to counter them and to establish themselves as key player in Asia they started mass manufacturing of indigenous developed equipments and today they have a HUGE NAVAL fleet. In few years they will out number US navy in number of ships.
Russian - totally indigenous.

India since the day one of it's independence is in conflicts 1949 war 1962 1967 1965 1971 1999 & doklam and other small conflicts after each conflict we rapidly gave billions of $ to import equipments but we never developed a industry to fulfill our needs meanwhile Chinese are churning out massive number's. India never developed industry which can protect the country from future threat because of corruption of governments structure of procurement PSU culture and all. India can never gain long term military edge on two front without developing it's own equipments. There are too many issues india is dependent on logistics from 10 countries whenever war breaks Indian defence minster have to run to Russia just to make sure russi will supply spares. What a shame.


I hope after this Chinese crisis we move forward in right direction and take security of the country seriously and develop Desi equipments.

If we need best aircrafts available then we should make it in our home by importing the best parts import the best radars best engines best ejection seats best missiles best avionics and integrate them to make the best aircraft possible like SAAB did with griepen and if indian companies come with best Radars, engines, avionics, missiles etc then it’s even better
