The performance of the NLCA will be keenly watched. If it does OK with no major issues and also meets or exceeds the availability of the Mig29 K, it will be a tribute to our aerospace scientists and engineers.

Designing an carrier aircraft is not an easy task. The tremendous stress on the aircraft undercarriage upon landing is an technical challenge to overcome. I hope that the NLCA passes with flying colours. The GE F404 engine's reliability will hopefully ensure that the NLCA even with a single engine is a viable carrier aircraft.
As regards payload capability of the NLCA even if one Anti Ship Cruise missile can be carried along with 2 or 4 Air to Air missiles and a decent flying time, it should be enough as a stop gap measure till the TEDBF becomes available.

Undoubtedly the success of the NLCA on the Vikrant will make the job of developing the TEDBF much easier as our design choices will be validated.

...also meets or exceeds the availability of the Mig29 K,
This it can very comfortably do.

...one Anti Ship Cruise missile can be carried
Not this just A2A payload.. and frankly we don't use the Mig-29K for maritime strike either. The BrahMos-A asked Su-30s of 222nd sq of IAF based as Thanjavur covers the whole IOR region.
