Thats why i was supportive of f21 deal in mmrca 2.0 initially . We wld have got 114 fighter jet in short period of time and local MRO facility of lockheed martin and probably AIM260 missile .. But people get emotional and start abusing 😅 .. Airforce rightnow is facing a crisis given decreasing squadron numbers . HAL a govt company cant become a global aviation giant .. What is reward mechanism for talents in a govt organisations .. U clear a exam and that set . On the other hand in a private organisation sky is limit if u show excellence with high packages ..
relax...IAF is not in crisis...
crisis is term better used for following example...

"Afghan govt. is facing crisis after Taliban captures most of the country"

and why would we buy F21 aka F16 when our entire IAF doctrine is designed to counter the F16s? plus uncle sam is unreliable defense partner

The reason i said crisis is because
IAF still operating aircrafts like mig21 and we had to reactivate mig27 whn faced with chinese threat ... We also went for emergency purchase of mig 29 which is nt so superior whn faced with chinese threat .

Second without AESA , engine and other updates Su30 ll be obsolete in not so distant future against pak and china while IAF still be struggling with numbers .

We are in a region whr we face proxy war and agression . Its nt just abt defence in a total war . U must have the equipments so that u can confidently punish whn ev time calls for .

Su30 MKI mainly need a powerfull BVR missile. Radar may be more potent if AESA but it's already a powerfull one, and I don't see a problem with the engine.

MK1A is the most confusing project for common public. Nobody is clear about the number of stages this jet has to undergo before being inducted into IAF. If there is no significant change then why the CEMILAC certification is required ?

You kidding? The Mission Computer, FCS and Digital Flight Map Generator is being completely re-designed and you're asking why CEMILAC needs to certify it?

Opinion article. Nothing happened on this front yet.
Still don’t get your hopes up. Boeing and LM are hugely powerful lobbyists in the USG besides the LCA is very much overpowered/over spec’d for the UJTS. It is going up against clean sheet trainer aircraft optimised specifically for US/NATO training requirements

Let HAL have competiters ..
F21 would never have delivered a competitor to HAL

Between LCA, Rafale (plus additional follow on units) and the additional MKI/29 units IAF will be in an adequate place come 2028- not at sanctioned strength but having gone through a hugely transformative period with an almost entire recapitalisation from 20 years previously.

then it’s over to the MWF and AMCA who by then will be on very strong footing.

2-4 more are supposed to fly in August-Sept. As usual nothing on actual handover to IAF. 7 FOCs gathering dust. This follow-up is interesting...

IAF seems to prefer this batch delivery anyway

Using FOC production aircraft as test assets for the MK1A is interesting, so afterwards they’ll strip out the AESAR and improved EW suite to hand over a production spec FOC LCA? That’ll be rather tragic.

hopefully this’ll just incentivise the IAF to update all the IOC/FOC airframes to MK1A standard (where possible) in the near future

Reading about the recent developments reading about the recent developments, I've got a feeling that IAF actually wants all of the IOC/FOCs in Mark1A standard ASAP... some during delivery only.

LCA Mk-1A to take first flight by March, says HAL chairman

4-5 minutes

State-run plane maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has set a March 2022 deadline to carry out the first flight of the LCA (light combat aircraft) Mk-1A jet after wrapping up the necessary design activities, HAL chairman R Madhavan said on Thursday.
HAL will also next week announce a multimillion-dollar engine deal with US firm GE Aviation for 99 F404 engines to power India’s latest indigenous fighter, he said. The developments come six months after the defence ministry awarded a ₹48,000-crore contract to HAL for 83 LCA Mk-1A jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The first Mk-1A aircraft will be delivered to the air force by March 2024, with the rest slated to join its combat fleet by 2029.
