What?.. It already fires Derby-ER. So no Astra for Tejas (just as I predicted), or is it coming?

Not a single source from drdo or govt of India mentioned it
Rather they mentioned derby with enhanced capability

Enhanced capability doesn't means enhanced range
It might be more jam proof than the previous one

But till now as I know derby er was only tested from ground based systems
I have not come with any article where derby er fired from fighter jets

Can do ground attack with lgbs , dumb bombs
And it had a score par of jaguar in ground attack in gaganshakti

Most of the fighter s with iaf , fires r73 as CCM

Where as Tejas can fire r 73 and at the same time python 5
And. Python 5 belived to be a better CCM than r73
Astra integration was going on ,the day Tejas fires astra ,it will have a aim 120 c. Equivalent bvr.

In the era of BVR warfare or short shooting skirmishes ( like balakot) just having 1 BVR ( number not type) won't be sufficient.

Nah.. Internal 2500kg & tanked 600kg will see it through 700km combat range with missiles.

Well, the interception mission on 27th Feb took only 4 minutes to make contact. Assuming all the internal the fuel in reserve for afterburnered dogfighting, I'd assume it can loiter for nearly an hour or 45min on the 580kg fuel of the central DT.

Hell no!.. Most of that fuel will go to waste on jettissoning drop tank. Waaaay too much.

Mig-21 has half that range & its interception mission payload is 1 central-tank + rest missiles, as was on 27th Feb. It is more likely the Tehas will follow that pattern.
