83 MK-1A is a must buy, else we'd end up with a useless production line meanwhile not gaining any additional experience in ramping up prod for a homemade fighter and expanding the supply chain.
Additionally, we need those to actually ramp up the squadron size. LCA Mk1 is a Good aircraft in the current form and can easily fit in the shoes of Mig 21. Mk1A will be better and I don't like to talk about Mk2 yet. :p
Heck they should also be buying an additional at least 60 LCA SPORT LIFT trainers (at least 2 Sqds for IAF and 1 for IN),
2 squadrons for IAF and 1 for Navy is a huge number. I will suggest 15 for IAF and 8 for the Navy.
We should be looking to have at least a yearly production capacity of 24 fighters for local customers plus 6-8 for per year for export customers. An eventual peak production rate of at least 30-32 is a must.
That's never gonna happen, with the current orders and export potential. The best they can achieve eevn with another line is 20..... (Rate claimed by HAL/2)
With 36 Rafale coming by 2023, we can defer 36-54 additional orders of the Rafale till 2023-24 if we are worried about budgets. LCA must take priority.
I am not in favor of additional Rafale. They cost a little too much. We should add additional Su 30MKI instead.

Yes, LCA must take priority.

Hey guys? Any news on when Flying Daggers would be moved to a forward base? I read somewhere that they are planning to move it by the end of this year.

No they will move to new base only after creation of new squ of tejas FOC I hope like first IOC squ this will also start with 4 birds
Hopefully! 2nd squadron was supposed to have gotten inducted by this month but guess there has been some delay with the last minute software update from ADA. Had the LCA's been inducted on time, It would have been a Tejas that downed the F-16.

The delay due to FCS ( fire control system) rewritten enteirly added few new features to it LCA FOC comes with some new capability that lacked in IAF I don't know exactly what but my hunch is buddy lazing for long ranged BVR shot's so mki lazing for LCA the mini fighter can get in more closer with its low RCS and make a kill shot ( its not verified but my strong belief it will be the only possible request made by IAF in last moment with out altering FOC regulations)

When ever I see someone use the word “teething problem”, I immediately assume that the person using it doesn’t know what it takes to complete a project end to end, especially green field projects.

Since HAL & ADA are literally writing the text book for aeronautical development in india for the current century, I think we can give them some leeway even if they miss the mark by a bit.

Journey is as important as the end result.

Very correct. +1......................

More Rafales are a foregone conclusion. The only question is how many we end up buying, and how specifically we plan to buy and build them.

Hope, this one will also help

I don't understand why people find it difficult to understand that our armed forces are "kickback hungry" forces.
Who will get the kickbacks here? IAF top brass including Air chief, the lower rung officers, vigilance officers, MoD,bureaucrats, the defense minister himself, the prime minister.. all of them have to be in loop to get kickbacks. Nobody will allow the other to have it all alone. So you think this level of corruption is taking place under current govt.?
