Hope we get this during MLU

Wishful thinking...

P-15A should also get 150km Ashwin SAM as an extra layer above the 70km LR-SAM during MLU. :yey:

P-15B should get the 250km PDV based SAM as an extra layer above 120km ER-SAM during MLU. :yey:

that's nice if we get such thinks later our super DDG

32x Barak's 1
32x Barak 8
4x Phalanx CIWS with sea Ram
8x PDV Based Ballistic Interceptor

16x Brahmos
16x Nirbhay
16x Klub

4 x 530mm Torpedo tube

along with two MRH

ABM are not for maneuvering targets generally speaking on the other hand traditional anti aircraft missiles are not capable of intercepting high speed ballistic missiles, which may require precision end game guidance system(thrusters) to score a kill unless you are not employing a nuke warhead for detonation. Indian Naval Destroyers are currently employed to make a fleet defense, ballistic missiles are generally not fired on ships Chinese anti-aircraft carrier missile might b an exception but least data available how it will be.

SM-3,PDV are not designed to chase an aircraft but intercept a ballistic missile.

It would be better to write, lets hope the Chinese nor American use this system, the 76mm is the solution against Brahmos missiles.

You would have a 40km range CIWS at 120 rpm with IR guided vulcano munition (to get to mach speed the Brahmos must generate a giant IR signature)

Is IR guided vulcano rounds available for the Super Radip?

if yes please share its maximum rate of fire, maximum range against aircraft and muzzle velocity.

First being Vulcano an evolution of the Dart ammo, i think the muzzle velocity should be the same (i'm still searching)

From wikipedia
The DART projectile is similar in many aspects to other hyper-velocity systems, for example the Starstreak SAM missile's multi-dart warhead, but is a guided gun projectile with radio controls and a proximity fuse for low level engagement (up to 2 meters over the sea). DART is fired at 1,200 m/s (3,900 ft/s), can reach 5 km range in only 5 seconds, and can perform up to 40 manoeuvres. The DART projectile is made of two parts: the forward is free to rotate and has two small canard wings for flight control. The aft part has the 2.5 kg warhead (with tungsten cubes and the 3A millimetric wave new fuse), six fixed wings and the radio receivers.[7]
From OTO Melara here the specs of Vulcano 76mm (i Advice to check 127mm too, it has a range if over 100km)
http://www.otomelara.it/documents/1287567/3805308/body_VULCANO_76_mm_REV2013.pdf

I found the muzzle velocity, it is: 3,000 - 3,024 fps (914 - 925 mps) and since i didn't read anything on a different RPM we can suppose it is still 120 rounds per minute.
Source:http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_3-62_mk75.htm

I understand that the BER is the AA solution with a range of 30km unguided but having already the ASuW model with the IR i don't think it would be hard to integrate it in the BER-AA role. The 127mm Vulcano-BER munition has a range of 60km just in case.

No information about its ability to intercept a super sonic missile, 40 km ballistic range, then consider its effective air target interception range to some 18-20 kms max.

Strales 76mm system with DART guided ammunition is the only weapon system in the world which can ensure high level performance (at a lower cost than dedicated anti-missile systems) in the engagement of manouevring supersonic missiles with high lateral g force
From OTO Melara DART - OTO Melara

This is the Dart ammo from which the Vulcano ammo has generated, we can suppose that vulcano hasn't lost the dart capability against supersonic, the fact it is IR guided makes it even better in respect of the Dart that could have problems against new stealth missiles.

P.S. Just in case I agree with you, there are no information on how it performs against supersonic and I even doubt the Dart statement since at 5 km brahmos leaves you with just 5-6 seconds to engage. So consider all of what I write suppositions.

Well, China has FL- 3000 + 30mm type 1130 gun to do the same job.

Type 1130 can reach 11,000 rounds/min.
FL-3000

Type 1130

btw, the US has a similar solution as China does.

It will be really great if India participates in our new generation of Global Combat Ship (Type 26) frigate project.

Never going to happen. Even the korean offer with AEGIS will not be taken up by IN. Most likely P-17 follow on with Barak-8 and MF-STAR to standardize IN requirements.

But, GCS is not expensive and it will be even cheaper if India joins the project.

India is interested in developing technologies through JV's. India has some agreements and co operation with BAE systems. ATM India is looking for co operation in technological field through JV's.

India has some technologies which are already developed and are working fine as per Indian Navy's requirements. But there are some areas which are lagging, it is in these areas India is looking to buy or JV's .

yes, even if effective rage is some 20 km you get a 15 sec window, we need to wait and see how how IR terminal guidance of Vulcano ammo perform in real time against super sonic targets, it might need super precision guidance and big explosion radius warhead to score a kill, rate of fire/rpm is at disadvantage.

Good plan. It'd be nice to see a comparison between Kolkata and Type 45 air defence destroyer.

Isnt it's characteristic like other short range CIWS available around?

Even when they are operational, Barak 8 will still be a medium range SAM not capable of engaging aircraft or cruise missiles at long range, a key requirement for Area Air defence.
Even if Chinese vessels have a SAM of 120km it doesn't matter since most naval illuminatprs don't have that kind of range.

MF-STAR can detect a low flying stealthy/subsonic missile at 25+Km. So for a supersonic missile like BrahMos missile detection range would increase to about 60-70 Km.
Once the detection is done missile would be fired, intially it would be controlled by MF-STAR but in latter stages the ARH seeker onboard will do the job.

American Destroyers with SM-6 are a generation ahead of other destroyers.
