France is ordering 42 additional single-seat Rafale F4 for the French Air and Space Force: 30 additional aircraft, and 12 to replace the second-hand Rafale sold to Croatia.

Looks like Rafale’s production lines will be fully occupied with the new orders:
you know that Dassault could not get any foreign orders until IAF made the decision of going for Rafales. Once India ordered the Rafales then other nations started ordering Rafales. Dassault should be grateful to India for helping Dassault get more foreign orders.

I think India is third customer after Egypt and Qatar.
Dassault & France should be very grateful to Egypt for helping Dassault and French during worst conditions & to order French weapons & get more & more foreign orders.

Only after India chose Rafale and eliminated Eurofighter. Then it took India over 3 years to negotiate a purchase contract which in that timeframe, Egypt and Qatar decided to order Rafales. They basically used India's MRCA contest to see which fighter to go for at India's expense.

If my memory is correct, Egypt where the first ones who brought Rafale, after that modi selected rafale, but unable to conclude the deal before Qatar.
MMRCA has nothing to do with Egypt order, Egypt orderd Raffle due to issue with US. Egypt brought French/Russian Mistral lhd first and later rafale - a total life savior for France
Egypt & Qatar brought Rafale in 2015 and India in 2017. Qatar followed Egypt path and brought rafale
India lost golden opportunity to acquire 2 LHD plus a sweet rafale deal due to inaction of UPA

Then you got the timeline wrong. In 2012, Rafale emerged as the winner of the MMRCA contest. Negotiations dragged on for 3 years. Then Modi ordered the Rafales in April 2015 in visit to France after he won the elections. Then they entered into contract negotiations which they concluded in 2016.

Egypt basically followed the MMRCA contest and used the results to make its own choices. Egypt ordered the Rafales in February 2015 and received 3 Rafales that was intended for French Air Force in May 2015 and received 21 more planes thereafter.

They had the choice of Eurofighter or Rafale. They used the MMRCA results to make their choice.

A lot of countries closely followed the MMRCA tenders to check out how India'd decide . RMAF - Malaysia for one has mostly based its purchases on what India buys. Ditto for Bangladesh , Vietnam etc. T&C applies. This also explains why most of these countries have an extensive defence relationship with us particularly from the service PoV which'd come in handy now given the difficult situation Russia's in.

Yes. Dassault Rafale has been on a role with additional orders ever since it won our 126 order MRCA contest though Egypt and Qatar ordered before us. Now UAE has placed order for 80 jets, Indonesia too and heard the Saudi’s, Serbia etc too will place further orders. Wouldn’t this delay our orders when we place it and wouldn’t an additional line in India to manufacture at least a 100 jet order be the only option ?

Dassault may not have any incentive to do so because it already got those orders to keep busy for the next ten years.

No one picked the Rafale until India made her choice. Follow the timeline.
Yes that’s true. But happened to read somewhere that Egypt concluded the entire deal from testing to negotiations in just 6 months. We have been struggling for more than 20 years now. Reminds us of the days in India in the late 1970’s when the Jaguar deal was concluded in a record time.

We should have bought those 2nd hand Rafales.

Allow a middleman in the deal & watch the Babus in Delhi work at a lightning pace. The G2G deals are boring. All work & no play make Indian Babus dull boys.
