I think you are barking under wrong tree. The argument was that Rafale weapons payloads is not equal to Su-30mki.

Check whom I have tagged initially. That guy claimed both have equal weapons carrying capacity which is wrong notion.
And that is never something I even cared to adress. What I had issue is with is specifically this post:
So show us 14 hard points in Rafale.

Remember Dual Rake/triple take on one pylon doesn't count as a pylon.
As for carrying capacity, Rafale can carry more stuff by weight (9,5 vs 8 tons). But carrying capacity by weight is not the only thing that matters. For any long-range missions, Rafale needs external fuel tanks, which means two or three pylons become useless, leaving either three or even only two pylons for external weapons.

Tel Aviv: The Saudi decision to purchase up to 200 French made Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft, brings the tension between Riyadh and Washington to a new peak. The Middle Eastern analysts say that the plan proves that Saudi Arabia no longer considers the US to be its major Western ally.


In response to Riyadh’s drop in oil production, US legislators proposed legislation last October to halt all arms deliveries to the country. The analysts say that the modern design of the French fighter aircraft and the fact that France is a NATO member is another factor in the Saudi evaluation. This is based on the fact that a French fighter aircraft will be easily integrated with the Saudis existing fleet of American made fighter aircraft. Russia and China have also offered their fighter aircraft to the Saudis but at this point all signs point to the selection of the French made fighter aircraft.




The 4.5 generation Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine delta-wing agile multi-role jet fighter that was created and manufactured by Dassault Aviation. The Rafale, which debuted in 2000, is being developed for both carrier-based operations with the French Navy and land-based operations with the French Air Force.



After the surprising coalition created between Iran and Russia in March, another one has just been announced – Iran and Saudi Arabia have decided to restore diplomatic relations. This surprising development has broad repercussions throughout the Middle East and the Gulf regions. In addition, this development has many implications for the world generally and for the US and Israel specifically.

In recent months, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu played with the idea of creating an agreement with the Saudis that will make them practically part of the Abraham Accords. But it seems that the Saudis have been following the developments in Israel, namely the attitude of the far right government and that resulted in second thoughts if there were any.

It seems highly fancyful in France.
SA used Rafale to have a better solution from uncle Sam, this is the french view.

Seems highly unlikely that Saudis can master F16, EF 2000 and now planning to swallow Rafale. Just doesn't make sense the acquisition process, knowing Saudis human capital pool.

No F16 for SA. "only" F15, Tornado and EF2000.
The main fleet to replace is the old Tornado one, and the first batch of F15 (with small teeth, to comply to Israel)

Are we going to be assembling Rafale into the 2030s?
We really should have a 5th gen fighter, whether it is AMCA or imported, in the pipeline by then with the Tejas MK2 for the lower end stuff.
If the French can deliver quickly I would rather a reduced Rafale order from the existing line to tide us over until the MK2 assembly line is operational.
Also if the Rafale assembly line is constructed it would take about 5 years of production to fulfil the IAF order at 24/year. What are the French planning on doing with the line after?I
Could we use the production facilities for the TejasMK2/TEDBF/AMCA?

Seems like a good deal if true. Hopefully we can get deliveries quickly. Maybe the first squadron or two from the line in France?
Quickly? Nothing possible in less than 3 years. Or 2nd hand, but french air force already has been milked, so unlikely.

3 years from signing the deal to first delivery is standard. However, with the Rafale backlog, any significant Indian order will take very long to fulfil unless the capacity of the French line is upgraded or a new line is built on India.

$224 million per jet, quite standard for this class of aircraft.
Rafale is quite expensive as is, the unit cost of the Rafale M alone is $100-110 million.
Once you add up other things like weapons, specific enhancements, training simulators, maintenance, logistics, etc. the costs add up.
Makes sense , I had the misconception that the this purchase is going to be cheaper given that we already operate 36 of these

Original 2016 purchase was IIRC 8.8 billion USD or 244 million USD per aircraft. Today that will have been 11,29 billion USD or 314 million USD per aircraft.

So this purchase is actually quite a bit cheaper. And again, any such purchase will include not just aircraft but also weapons, spare parts and so on.

Damn, more than $300 million per aircraft is F-15EX level pricing

You won't get much cheaper if you want a frontline fighter. F-15EX costs 80 million USD per aircraft, Rafale is probably cca 100 million USD for aircraft itself... but aircraft need tools, weapons, equipment and so on.

So when you add everything together, 200 - 300 million USD per aircraft is a given. Even for something like F-16 or Gripen.

I sincerely hope that the IN settles for the Rafale-M to fulfill its requirement for a deck based fighter aircraft.
