am not being dejected, 50% offset will go only for Rafale not for any other project. Rafale will invest that to develop MSME sector to work only for Dassault Aviation. And thats for first few years..later on we will be on our own with the gathered knowledge and technology to be used for any further projects.
If media to be believed, this is what has been reported.

According to the deal being offered, India would not need to spend any more developmental money on the project and Safran would take on the investment, committing to make the Kaveri flight-worthy within 18 months. The proposal is to integrate the upgraded Kaveri with the Mk 1 A version of the Light Combat Aircraft by 2020.

Well, I am not privy to internal details of Rafale deal, but France needs to invest $5 billion in Indian industry to meet the offsets clause. I don't think there is enough investment to be made in Indian MSME sector to work for Dassault aviation. IMHO, France will need to look for additional ways to meet the offsets clause, and Kaveri can play a big role.
Yes thats $4.32 billion, and Pal, there are damn scope in MSME sector in India. FYI, as of now, Dassault will only invest for Rafale and not for any other project. And they are least interested in Kaveri. The offset money will flow only for Rafale related products and technologies.

Then, what should be the GOI's move here, should the IAF go for 90 more Rafales and then get the Kaveri rolling or wait for more years to come and expect GTRE to science the shit out of it and do it themselves.

The link says it all, but Pal there is no substantial information that we are going with deal.
Actually this deal had been done after scrapping the tender and going for GtoG deal. So may be it could carry some worth behind it. Moreover in a move by setting up offshore MRO facility by Safran with HAL, we could assume that work on Kaveri might also take place.

Ok here is this report where Raha says that IAF wants more Rafales :- Firstpost
But then there is this report where GOI says no more Rafales :- DefenceNews

And there are also reports that claim GOI might go with some other platform.
God Bless Kaveri

IAF is not going with Rafale, its dead for MMRCA. Instead, government is worried about forex reserve and they wanna spend less. So hopefully we are almost going for SAAB gripen because they are giving near full ToT.
Government is moving with a snails pace on Engine technology aka on Kaveri. It is more focused on Tejas and they want that to be a milestone asap. They work on Tejas is going in two shifts even on holidays. So you know how much the govt. is serious about Tejas. Kaveri will get its share in near future, but at present we dont see any major developement.

It doesn't leave Kaveri to god anyway. Any involvement of France in kaveri is based on the 36 nos of Rafale which would come in during next 6 years. If GoI wants to go any other way, then too they would have to be involved in Kaveri. And if they don't want to get involved, Rafale or no Rafale, they would not be interested in Kaveri.

I don't think so.
Dassault had a plan to developp a Falcon jets factory in india, with jets specially tailored for the indian market.

DRDO ROPES IN IIT BOMBAY AND MADRAS FOR PROPULSION RESEARCH
Mumbai: Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre today laid the foundation stone of 'Centre of Propulsion Technology' here, set up by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) alongwith with IIT-Bombay and IIT-Madras to support country's plans for developing aero- engines and hypersonic propulsion for long duration flight.
The centre, established at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay in Powai here, will be operational in the next two years and the research there will be jointly conducted by IIT-Bombay and IIT-Madras.
This is the third such centre being set up where a premier academic institute has been roped in for defence related research and development of technology.
Earlier, similar centres have been set up in Kolkata and Delhi.
Bhamre said the centre is going to be a game-changing institution in the field of defence research.
"We want research teams to come up with futuristic technologies for defence sector. There will be target oriented research, collaboratively done with experts and scientists," he said.
There have been some gaps in the earlier technologies, hence, we have decided to bring best institutions together for defence and security enhancement, Bhamre said.
Chairman of DRDO, S Christopher, said, "We are looking for at least five year long research projects at such centres. Earlier, projects of few years were given to academical institution like IIT-Bombay but its duration was around three years."
"The centre is based on a long term contract between DRDO and the IITs and will cater to more important and crucial research works, which will have specified deadline to achieve," he said.
Meanwhile, Devang Khakhar, Director of IIT-B, said, the first meeting of research advisory board was held on Thursday and the first phase of development has been approved already.
The governing council will take a final call soon over the proposals from the board, he said.
The centre for propulsion technology will facilitate and undertake multi-disciplinary directed basic and applied research in the focused areas of futuristic aero-engines, hypersonic propulsion for long duration flight, solid propellant combustion modelling and morphing aircraft including its propulsion and associated technologies addressing the emerging defence and security needs.

@mods, #justaskin
If we could change title of thread into
Indian Aero Engines Development News, Updates and Reports etc.
so that we can cover up all sorts of Aero Engine Programs in India here, like HTFE -25. Kaveri isn't alone.

Kaveri Engine Updates:

Bengaluru: No combat role for Tapas (Rustom-2) UAV, which had its maiden flight recently. DRDO Chairman S Christopher told media persons here on Sunday that TAPAS-BH-201(Tactical Advanced Platform for Aerial Surveillance-Beyond Horizon-201) will be in a non-combat role.

“Media reports are incorrect. Tapas is an UAV and not UCAV,” Christopher said. He said the UAV is developed for surveillance purpose only at a total cost of Rs 1,500 crore. “We have to make 10 platforms as part of the project. It was a challenging mission for the team, which consisted of youngsters,” said Tapas Programme Director A P V S Prasad.

On a specific query on the Final Operational Clearance for Tejas, Aeronautical Development Agency head Cmde C D Balaji (Retd) said the process will be completed next year.

“We hope that Tejas would get the FOC by mid of 2017. The BVR Derby missile will be fired again next month. The gun integration work is completed. The air-to-air refuel ling probe too will be tested next year,” Balaji said.

DRDO DG (Aero) C P Ramanarayanan said LCA with Kaveri engine might fly in 2018. He said DRDO is already in consultation with Snecma. Already Rs 2,105 crore has been spent on the project. Another Rs 600 crore is likely to be needed for the testing phase.

On Nirbhay missile, Aeronautical Development Establishment Director M V K V Prasad said a low-flight trial will be held next month.

“This will be followed by two more flights. Work on the air variant is on,” Prasad added.

If this is true, and Tejas afterall, flies with Kaveri, would that mean that MK1A would come with Kaveri in place of F404 ??

That is OK I guess. Considering that it is a MALE UAV, I guess AURA would be the answer to UCAV indigenisation.
