i think members are little overreacting here yes may be china has sucessfully made 5g generation plane ahead then us but this doesn mean we should overreact . they are not going to attack us on very next day launch of their 5g bird. we should find out answer for it in short period of time as well as acclerate our amca porgrame. with lca we have accquired technological knowledege and what i think remaning is engine only even in that china is still lacking(i may be wrong here) but that doesn`t mean we should hit destroy button. there is ample amount of space and if use our card effectively then we can 2 develope plane counter to china 5g . chinas 5g sucessful test should inspire us to make amca

This seems to be the same HUD as that on the JF-17 or the FC-1.

But the leaked pics of J-20 showed something greenish oval shaped HUD, as it seemed not sure though.

Does this mean that another chinese 5th Gen figher is in the offing???

BTW,Pinkov of Kanwa denys stoutly that J20 uses Russian-made engine after he saw the prototypes with his eyes in Chengdu.

J20 China's 5G fighter aircraft : India's Joint Defence HQ orders J-20's study

Li Daguang, a military expert at the PLA National Defense University, told the Global Times that Gates' prediction was overly optimistic.

"The recent rumor about the J-20 is pure speculation," he said. "The F-22 is an offensive weapon that fits Washington's global strategy. China's defense development is self-defensive in nature and does not require a fighter jet of that caliber.

"Furthermore, if China does want a fourth-generation fighter jet, it needs to build a large number of them in order to affect the regional military balance. The US has capped its number of F-22s at 187. How many should China build?"

Li also noted that China's aviation technology is still far away from competing with Western countries, especially the US.

"Some Western media are more optimistic than Gates, and than the Chinese people," he said. "They've hyped the issue because they want to."

Taiwan questions China's stealth capability

2011/01/05 19:51:44

Taipei, Jan. 5 (CNA) The Ministry of National Defense (MND) indirectly confirmed Wednesday a lawmaker's assessment that China's research and development (R&D) capability as regards its the fifth-generation fighters is doubtful.

Pictures purporting to be of the prototype J-20 stealth fighter were posted on several websites after the U.S.-based Aviation Week magazine reported that the aircraft had been undergoing taxiing tests in late December at an airfield in Chengdu, western China.

The debut of the J-20 was announced in November 2009, but Shen I-ming, deputy defense minister in charge of intelligence, anwering questions from Legislator Lin Yu-fang of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) before the Legislative Yuan's Foreign and Defense Committee, said the authenticity of the photos was questionable.

Shen confirmed that China has been developing its fifth-generation fighters but said the aircraft shown in the photos do not appear to be that system.

He said Taiwan's military has been gathering information on China's development of modernized weaponry but declined to go into detail.

Shen said he agreed with Lin's assessment and previous reports from Russian news agency RIA Novosti that China's R&D capability in engines, radar and composite materials for the fifth-generation fighters "has a long way to go" before any major breakthroughs can be expected.

Local military observers have expressed concern that the Chinese stealth fighters, if they become operational, will put Taiwan's air force at a disadvantage, even if Taiwan upgrades its F-16 A/B fleet or acquires more advanced F-16 C/D fighters.

KMT Legislator Shuai Hua-min warned that regardless of China's results in developing such aircraft, there is no denying that China has been devoting a great deal of energy
