The second photo is for representation as i don`t have picture of round when i was peeling it ..

The core is steel and they are AP in nature ..
No special identification mark like a tip color to signify AP ? How does the soldier know if it's ball or ap or tracer ? Also how does ofb package ammo ? Is it like soviet/russian sealed spam cans inside wooden boxes, or something else like nato ammo tins with handles ?

So every round made by OFB is steel core?
And thank you for the replies.

These rounds are design to defeat +3 level BP from 400ms, Every round is steel core ..

My Pleasure ..

Seems like these rounds would perform excellent against enemies with bpj or behind light cover.
So every round made by OFB is steel core?
And thank you for the replies.

So copper jacket, steel core and brass case right?
Both copper and brass costs 3+lakh and 3.5-4,2 lakh per tonne.
Why not replace both of them with cheaper steel.
Even zinc can be used instead of copper to jacket steel core,it costs less than 2 lakh per tonne.

That is a decision for the top brass (pun intended) to take and the dynamics of what factors go behind decisions that takes decades and are supposed to answer simple questions, is wayy beyond the intellectual prowess of us peasants.

If only IA had a youtube channel where they uploaded videos of the INSAS punching through steel plates round after round and show the true reliability of the platform, circlejerking commenters about how India is so backward and can't even design a rifle, on online blogs like TFB, would shut up quickly.

Why do these people even care ?
They care because of people visit more to website to comment on india,so that they can make more money by advertising.

Some of the comments don't even try to sound reasonable, they just want to confirm their bias that India is a third world country and it should fail miserably in every aspect. I guess expecting objectivity from the typical conservative pick up truck driving gun toting guy is itself a mistake.

They don't need logic.they are there just to bash India.
BTW write an article that India is poor bla bla...even you can get enough web traffic to survive that month.

@Kunal Biswas What is the approx cost of 5.56 round in India.
In US it costs anywhere between 350-480$ per 1000 rounds means 22-31 rupees per round.

DRDO-ARDE designed Joint Venture Protective Carbine

The JVPC (earlier called the MSMC) is the arguably the best close protective carbine developed in India. Indigenously designed by the DRDO's Armaments Research & Development Institute and produced by the Ordnance Factory Trichy. It has the potential to replace every 9 mm carbine used by the army, the paramilitary and police forces.

His comment:

10 rounds on single shot down a 50 m firing range. The verdict: terrific noise and recoil, which aren't positives. The OFB is working on a AK-74 style sound suppressor which should reduce noise levels. Not sure what you can do to reduce the recoil from a full power cartridge though.
I don't think the recoil is massively higher than other 7.62x51 rifles:

The noise can be reduced with some specific design changes that aren't a huge task at all.
