That is what i was thinking, Its too small for a 76mm but not AK-630 made by OFB ..

The size is enough to mount two AK-630 together..

IMHO, a 76mm gun has a slow rate of fire and so not very effective as CIWS. I think these sponsons will have most likely AK630 based CIWS which cud be Kastan also.
Sir, aren't those CIWS platforms for AK-630?

An Indian built A/C Carrier, we have truly come a long way....

Some observations

1. IAC-2 = IAC-1 X (Scaled approx 1.5 times + Further Design Rationalisation + ~50 A/C(AWACS + Maybe Surveillance Drones) + Nuke Powerplant derived from INS Arihant SSBN)

2. 76mm gun is a General Purpose Weapon, Air Defence is provided by carrierborne A/C and Barak-8 SAM, Close in defence against missile threat will be covered by AK 630 Gatling cannon. This is some serious shipborne defensive firepower for what is essentially a medium carrier.

3. If only we had more shipyards and private players, we could sell this design or a variation of the design to friendly countries.

4. Methinks the Bridge-Superstructure is near complete and will be fitted out by year end, leaving only the angled deck.

5. I think the carrier will be ready operationally by 2018....not bad at all.

6. Finally the IAC will be far superior at nearly all parameters to that old Russian Design(Gorshkov) but at a much lower cost, a real Indian workhorse.

At today's dollar rate, Gorshkov is worth about 14k crores ($2.3b) while IAC-1 will be just 8K crores when finished. What a waste of money for Gorky or what a great bribe deal.

LOL China might get pissed off. In anger, they may lease their Shang class SSN to Pakistan if we help Japan. :fu:

France may be an option since they have similar aircraft carrier (like IAC-2) with nuclear propulsion (Charles de Gaulle). DCNS France already has presence in India. Their plan for second aircraft carrier for France is cancelled so they are free to help India in technology.

Indian Navy is also acquiring 4 Multi Role Support Vessels or LPDs.

We must construct helicopter carriers for the amphibious/special forces adding flexibility to the carrier fleet. :dharma:

Many merchant ships of GOI owned SCI have the names of our decorated soldiers and officers. Politicians will name everything as Nehru, Indira and Rajiv while we have far too many ships. If you want them to be named after politicians, you will need to ensure that Nehru-Gandhi family dies faster. LOLZ
Nope In US President list Most of them are Veteran Officers ..If we go In Russian Ships Most of the Ships Names are Retired Generals Name ..

Why we need to put Corrupted Politicians name to this Craft

I have a Sugestion INS Subash S Bose or INS Bhagat Singh

LOL... sir what about naming after cities/states..??

totally agree SJ... just wanted to know thinking behind ship naming in navy wasnt suggesting name it after crooks :p
