The issue is with Navy wants 3rd carrier to be a Biggie with Nuclear propelled and CATOBAR/EMALS 65000+Tons minimum. They don't want another 40k Ton carrer or Vikrant clone. Hence the issue with Govt. If navy agrees for another Vikrant then govt may agree to build. Here due to navy stubbornness ( rightfully who wants new career with old design) and dwindling sub feet govt wants to scrap 3rd carrier plans and go for subs( again the number of subs proposed is not sufficient) instead which navy doesn't want. Navy wants both to have subs and 3rd career. In comparison IAF getting new toys why will navy compromise?
Navy has dropped Nuclear Propulsion.
They want a conventional powered ship.

Agreed with everything but the "old design" thing. It's faster than our destroyers or frigates. It has more parking space, as well as longer runways with than both Vikramaditya & Shandong.

65k ton Vishal is not happening.... Nuclear propulsion is not happening.... EMALS is not happening (Teddy is being designed with sky jumps in mind only)..

EMALS should not be considered for INS Vishal, existing steam catapult should be used, EMALS will require a Nuclear Propulsion System on the ship, which will bleed our pockets.
Nuclear propulsion will be cheaper in the future as tech progresses, u don't want to depend upon conventional fuels forever.

Also there is no such thing as Blessing the pocket, money invested in India stays in India.

Essentially whatever we spend in building ships goes back to our economy, then government should try to look at this as well. A Nuclear Powered Super Carrier with EMALS may be expensive but will go back to our economy.

Yes actually.. back then it is seriously considered whether we're going for STOBAR or CATOBAR (not a new tech, older Vikrant had it).

At the power requirement is nothing compared to the proportion of a 45k ton ship that runs at 30knots (faster than our destroyers). Many don't really comprehend how cool this beauty is, I only had one doubt that was cleared few pages I ahead in the thread.
$3.5 billion is not that high compared to our defence expenditures, we should definitely start cloning a sistership on the the same design ASAP.
Its not that simple even of we consider it has enough power or space(i doubt it has).QE which has provisions for an upgrade to catobar will require huge investments for a conversion due to which brits balked.
A sister ship is also not necessary now.Our focus should be on building more capital ships to grow our fleet.Aircrafts carriers need huge investments to build, operate and lets not get into the airwing.
IMO ins vishal should be a class of 2-3 ships 1 for replacing vikky other adding to numbers ofcourse all these would depend on the economy

Navy has dropped plans for nuclear propulsion. Yes refueling over a period of time is costlier than nuclear tech, but IN is IN.

Take this as example : It's like saying IAF to don't go for 5th gen AMCA. we have Su30 mki with more range fuel carrying capacity endurance we will build few more.
We should realise our armed forces always are on logger heads like siblings demanding from parents comparing each others toys not neighbors toys.
Though navy dropped nuclear powered carrier plans (obvious reasons) they won't fall back on Vikrant clone carrier. Demand is still 65k+ Ton carrier with CATOBAR/EMALS + proposed submarines from govt.

If we didn't have any plans, nor funds for AMCA... then absolutely yes. Upgrade Su-30 like J-15 with composite body, more powerful 3D-TVC engines & as good as possible EW.

Or else you'll end up with nothing (ie, overextending use of vintage crap) ... Like IN doubtlessly will after 2040 retirement of Vikky.

Old pic of Ins Vikrant under construction. Structures were not added for landing runway. Looks like a LHD.
Some Quality Images >

===================

Quality work ..
You may also notice, that time there was no observation post(I don't know the correct name) below the sky jump. Many smaller design changes have been done which were not present on the model.

Why not we can design LHD after gaining experience from vikrant there is not much difference between them. Not sure what design bureau is doing may be they are busy in other projects.
Trishul blog has mentioned many times that Indian Navy design bureau can take help of Italian or Spanish naval design firms for LHD. Italian firm has already taken part in designing of INS Vikrant.

I think it is time for GOI to sanction drdo to build arresting gear for vikky & IAC-1's based on EM something like AAG on ford. Because if you not start soon then system won't be mature at time of replacment of current system on both carries or future carries.
