This is again, horizontal growth. As more and more people move to the cities, Mumbai will continue to grow. Its not like anybody can put a pause on it. Our country is a very crowded one and the population is expected to grow until 2050. Horizontal growth will obviously take up more precious land. Vertical growth is the best option for mumbai.-15 years back itself Mumbai had double the floating day time population than it’s residents.
-thankfully Mumbaikars are resourceful, they always manage a way to keep the city running, but the country cannot afford to puts all it’s financial eggs in one basket
-with the cost of construction + land acquisition, can build an entire mini city for the same cost it takes build one sky scraper in Mumbai
-there are enough satellite cities around Mumbai that can developed. Panvel airport and Navi Mumbai are one such plans
Build heights are proportional to urban density. In order to allow more people per sq km. in a city, you need to have road and rail transport infrastructure that support the required logistics and transport needs of more people per sq. km. In addition, you need more services such as more Hospitals and Schools. So if you want ubqiquitous Supertalls in Mumbai, you need to address the infrastructure limitations first. This is again, horizontal growth. from a Mumbai perspective, sure. Let it grow as per its capacity and requirement. No problem. This is again, horizontal growth.
