Rarely one gets an opportunity to say - I told you so within 24 hours. It seems that GoI has made a press release that another 124 tanks have been ordered. Though compared to 1600+ T-90s ordered, this order is not even a fraction thereof!Shiv Aroor has been posting absurd articles on Arjun for last few months and I think that he is being fed by leaks that new batch of Arjun Mark-1 will not be ordered. While other open sources are saying that between 124-250 more Arjun Mark 1 may be ordered before going on to Mark2. I think that source of Shiv decided to have the last laugh to decide what is the extent to which he can make a fool of SHiv. It seems that every nonsense he could think of, has been posted by Shiv, withoiut understanding the implication thereof. Lets us see whether and when next batch of Arjun-mark2 will be ordered
by mistake ,i did not read that T-95 development is halted ,but still it would be good idea for India and Russia to pair up and develop next generation tankRussia is not develpoing any super tank as people here are mentioning. In last 2 decades, we have seen hundreds of T series blown apart most of them killing their crews. Recents are in Gerogia, where T72BM equivelent to T90S, turret flying. In India we are still loving this tank and buying it. Some indian drinks a lot of Russian Vodka, it seems. T95 are whatever is called is cancelled and dead and mentioning it is like dead man walking.
they forget to ask the tank laser to take out missiles.....................I Love IA............must be our old friend DGMF he want FMBT.........http://www.ptinews.com/news/664700_Army-wants-laser-based-weapons-on-its-futuristic-tanks
Army for laser-based weapons on its futuristic tanks.
New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Looking to strengthen its armoured capabilities, the Indian Army wants its futuristic Main Battle Tank to be equipped with high-powered lasers for taking on enemy rockets, aircraft and electro-optical sensors.
"High/medium-energy level laser is expected to be a lethality option against rockets, air vehicles, light ground vehicles, antennas of armoured vehicles and electro-optical sensors," the Army stated in its long-term technology plans submitted to the Defence Ministry.
Officials said concerned DRDO labs are already working in this direction and developing the capability.
They added that these capabilities might be deployed on the Arjun Mk-II project, which was recently cleared by the Defence Ministry after the Army decided to place orders for another 124 Arjun MBTs with the DRDO.

How much energy is requierd for a laser based gun. IA may asked DRDO to put nuclear power plant in the tank. Why they did not asked for laser based wepons on T90S.http://www.ptinews.com/news/664700_Army-wants-laser-based-weapons-on-its-futuristic-tanks

That is another good point. There is no way powerpacks are going to hold enough energy to power a 50kw laser. The tank would have to haul a couple trailers full of the equipment and generators just to run it. It is an absurd idea at the level of even US technology, much less India. How much energy is requierd for a laser based gun. IA may asked DRDO to put nuclear power plant in the tank. Why they did not asked for laser based wepons on T90S.
We inducted the T-90 in early 2000. The Russians don't give away everything. Even asking for the Arena is a bit out of line for them. They won't give it.How much energy is requierd for a laser based gun. IA may asked DRDO to put nuclear power plant in the tank. Why they did not asked for laser based wepons on T90S.
That is correct. We inducted the T-90 in early 2000. The Russians don't give away everything. Even asking for the Arena is a bit out of line for them. They won't give it.
The US and Europe have invested and developed materials, nuclear sciences, aeronautics, electronics etc since decades and catching up to these sciences will be difficult. However, there are certain core technologies where Europe and US are working on even now. Those are Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, AI and perhaps even LASERS. The fact is if any other country wants to have a trump card, it will have to be in these sectors since they are in their infancy. The start line is now and not 50 years ago. So, all major breakthroughs in these technologies will happen now or in the future. So, why miss the train.
That is true.
The US is certainly ahead of all in Lasers. Let's see if somebody can catch up to or surpass the US. The power required for Lasers will be big. It is not possible in the immediate future.
Since the army has directed LASTEC to develop a new weapon system, they may get more direct funding for the project and help them focus better on it. Let's see where that will take us.
Russians don't have a tactical laser that will fit on a tank. No one does... They will sell all the Arena you are willing to buy, even ToT can be had for the right price. Secret is out, no one wants it.We inducted the T-90 in early 2000. The Russians don't give away everything. Even asking for the Arena is a bit out of line for them. They won't give it.
France is building the world's most powerful laser 2012.The US is certainly ahead of all in Lasers. Let's see if somebody can catch up to or surpass the US. The power required for Lasers will be big. It is not possible in the immediate future.
How will you mount a 50kw laser on a tank? Can't be done in this generation.Since the army has directed LASTEC to develop a new weapon system, they may get more direct funding for the project and help them focus better on it. Let's see where that will take us.
That has been my concern since i heard this news. For me, asking laser on MBT is just a ploy to cancel any future induction of homegrown MBT specially Arjun MkII. Also how much a laser gun will cost. Laser will be used as strategic wepons not as a tank gun.
How much energy is requierd for a laser based gun. IA may asked DRDO to put nuclear power plant in the tank. Why they did not asked for laser based wepons on T90S.
While i agree , that talk of fielding such a system in this decade is foolhardy. That is another good point. There is no way powerpacks are going to hold enough energy to power a 50kw laser. The tank would have to haul a couple trailers full of the equipment and generators just to run it. It is an absurd idea at the level of even US technology, much less India.
You cam up with the 50kW laser ,How will you mount a 50kw laser on a tank? Can't be done in this generation.
